LAGR and QID callsigns

Can anyone on here explain why some tanking sorties from Mildenhall for USAF are LAGR callsign while others are QID callsign??

Could somebody just explain call signs full stop!
Ask me about airshows or Phantoms or aircraft modelling and I am fine; call signs, notams etc are like trying to understand Martian.
(Just goes to show the wonderful diversity of our hobby.)

I was wondering this too as LAGR callsigns only started appearing about a month ago and I wondered if it was to do with an exercise.

I believe it is for tanker flight going out to the eastern bloc to meet up with the 48th FW aircraft on TDY there, but I could be wrong.

They've been used for sorties refuelling B-1s, B-52s, F-15s, RAF RC-135s, and more so that's not correct.
It may just be a second callsign for the 100th ARW, I'm not sure why everyone is getting so excitable over it.

Seem to remember reading somewhere that Lagr/Larga/Larger call signs are for Exercises or Operational Sorties, and Quid is for training/every day sorties?

I thought the LAGER callsign was being used due to the pubs reopening post lockdown....

If Carlsberg did call-signs, this would surely be the answer?
Probably the best 'Lager' in the World!
Also bear in mind the GBP (Quid) has recently dropped in value??

No ones getting excitable, this is a forum where people can ask questions, is it not? They’re probably just wondering why it’s only been used fairly recently.

Just seems to be lots of people needing to know why, but aren't asking the same questions about the new Marham callsigns, for example.

Probably because Marham F35s are hardly ever visable on tracking sites?
Far more people use tracking than have a scanner I'm guessing!

I noticed this callsign recently too and wondered why it has suddenly appeared. There must be a reason and I was not brave enoguh to ask as someone was bound to take a 'pop', as has now been done. Surely its OK to ask basic questions on here without fear of derision?

There may be an element of a nod to history here. LAGER (or LAGAR!) was an old callsign used back in the 1980's by the Fairford based KC135s of 11th SG. When the 11th SG disbanded the callsign fell into disuse, until this reincarnation....

I have heard it pronounced several times as LAGGER as in the person who insulates pipes and tanks, nothing to do with the fizzy fighting juice.
