I refuse to click on the link, the Express makes up any old tosh to get a rise.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Re: Red Arrows
Nothing in the article that hasn't already been posted here, but the comments are somewhat entertaining with the British public pointing out some of the highly dubious money wastage by the government.
Re: Red Arrows
Covid certainly doesn't help the situation with airshows been cancelled! It always has been touch & go over the years for the arrows with review after review, have to wait and see what happens!
Re: Red Arrows
The Government have persisted-away many times more than the Red Arrows' budget in Covid job-retention scams & wasted/non-compliant PPE alone. Take the "Eat-out to help-out" scheme which comes with a free Lockdown2! The Red's should've applied for 9 separate 'Business Grants' coz they couldn't work or fly at home?
When it comes right down to it there are many more important things than the Red's to spend the budget on, but in terms of feelgood factor for the general population the Red's deliver value for money IMO!

Re: Red Arrows
My daft idea for last year was for them to split into small sections which would fly to many destinations around the country each day doing flypasts

Re: Red Arrows
Good idea, C.24. It would give them much more exposure to Joe Public, without J.P having to fork out for the whole family to see them at, what for them, might a tough price to pay at an Airshow [when they happen].
Re: Red Arrows
Question what would go in their place, Grob Tutors x 9!!
Re: Red Arrows
Drones x 9....one operator, computer linked with relevant smoke colours etc!.....Only have to look at the New Year drone displays that happened in Scotland,to find out what's possible

Re: Red Arrows
The Reds HawkT1 are suppose to be in service upto 2030, but watch this space!!!
Re: Red Arrows
Indeed, that's why 736NAS are disbanding! One of the craziest ideas for years, as 100 Sqn will still have to fulfill the FOST & other requirements!
'its a lot less bover in the hover'
Re: Red Arrows
Can anyone remember the last time there was a defence review, and the Red's disbanding wasn't mentioned?

Re: Red Arrows
I’m struggling to see how the Reds only cost £15m a year?
By the time you factor in maintenance/engineering for 14/15 jets, fuel, support a/c flights, ground equipment costs, team wages, overseas training and not to mention the cost of keeping an entire base open just for them for the best part of 30yrs, the cost must be substantially more?

Re: Red Arrows
There are other units at scampton, not just the reds plus they are moving anyway.Thunder wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:10 pmI’m struggling to see how the Reds only cost £15m a year?

Re: Red Arrows
Maybe so, but the other units don’t use the actual airfield. The up keep of the runway alone would be in the couple of millions and that’s not including upgrades or repairs.
