Well if all else fails you can always still reminisce at John's place (WAVE) over a sausage & egg butty and cuppa.
Merry Christmas everyone (stay safe)

No comments about the Wedgetail airframes being ex-Chinese BBJs then?
You want the Aladeen news, or the Aladeen news?
Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Perfect, just the level of outrage I was hoping for.

Resurrecting the old Shackleton quote per chance.... 8 Screws are better than (any BBJs).....

I’m shocked at the level of maturity on this forum!
Given the fact (I suspect) that pretty much nothing bar the basic engineering shell of the airframe will be re-used, it’s rather inconsequential.

If you note the first line of my the post (or do I need to revisit the maturity assessment ) and the use of emojis again you may notice there was no reeling in.
Where’s the facepalm emoji?
Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
As you said should have gone for a new and upgraded version of the Shackleton at least the props would have been environmentally friendly.

Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Didn’t Boeing have some investment in the new facilities at Lossiemouth ?
If so, it makes sense to base the few Wedgetails we are acquiring there for a common maintenance system ?
If Waddingtons RC’s did move to Mildenhall , the old E3 secure compound and buildings cold possibly be used as a forward repair facility for both RAF & US RC’s

Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Does such a formal requirement exist? seems that for many years the respective operations have managed with the infrastructure that is currently in place. It still seems some here are spending money and moving fleets, that doesn't need to be spent, to fit their wishes and needs?Philwinward wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 2:56 pm…… If Waddingtons RC’s did move to Mildenhall , the old E3 secure compound and buildings cold possibly be used as a forward repair facility for both RAF & US RC’s....
Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
The only place the RAF RC-135s go for maintenance, major overhaul and upgrades is the same place the USAF ones go to. in USA And that is not going to change
Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Time will tell if they move from Waddington!!Agent K wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 4:47 pmDoes such a formal requirement exist? seems that for many years the respective operations have managed with the infrastructure that is currently in place. Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Wedgetail 1 now at Birmingham.
Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Go-on then, I'll bite! There are 15 Cities called Birmingham worldwide, 14 of them in the USA. Given that little gem isn't "Wedgetail 01" at the UK one a little early for 2023. Guess it could be a Civvy with a dubious choice of c/s ??

Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Ok, BBJ for conversion to Wedgetail number one has apparently arrived at Birmingham, U.K., for conversion by STS.
Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Well it’s been mentioned before that the work is being done at the only Birmingham that matters: Birmingham, UK.
