Tanker Stowaways
Tanker Stowaways
As the tanker was stormed by the Special Boat Service dropped in by helicopter in the cover of darkness. Do I take it was helicopters from Yeovilton used in this action.
Re: Tanker Stowaways
2 Merlin's and 2 wildcats were used in the assualt and two Chinooks from Odiham were used in dropping the boats into the sea.

To paraphrase George Orwell:
We may all sleep safely in our beds, knowing that rough men standby ready to do our doing.
After the 1980 Iran Embassy siege no one tried a similar stunt. Hopefully this will deter others from stealing ships.
In any event, well done to our highly professional armed forces for a job well done. Thank you!

Re: Tanker Stowaways
I'm not too sure they were trying to "steal" the ship? it's a big thing to try and hide...….Vulture 01 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2020 4:01 pmTo paraphrase George Orwell:

Re: Tanker Stowaways
Clarification to my earlier post.
What I should have made obvious was that no one has attempted to storm a building to hold hostages.
Instead, they've gone for asymetric warfare, planting bombs etc, or going for soft targets.
Hope this clarifies my earlier post.
BTW, when in the day job I worked with a ships Master who was an RNR reservist. What may not be known is that the SAS / SBS will often call in specialists when they have certain jobs to perform.
My friend got involved in a ship storming exercise off the south coast. After the bangs and flashes had finished, he was invited to climb the ships ladder to drive the boat into the harbour.
Just as he reached the top, one of the 'terrorists' popped up and waved a gun at him. Almost immediately a large fist, belonging to one of the storming group, appeared out of nowhere, neutralising the threat. This was followed by a sheepish ' Sorry sir, we overlooked that little ****er earlier'.
