Hi does anyone know if there is any literature available that would help me find out
what aircraft a certain pitot tube would have come off.
Its made by rosemount and has a model number of 855BU and is about 6ft long .
Any help of advice would be appreciated.

Hi effects.
I will try and get some photos this weekend as this belongs to a friend of mine.
It looks like one fitted to a tornado in shape at the end then gradually tapering up to a diameter of about 2 inch at the other end and it has a bracket with two holes welded on about 6 to 8 inches from the end and about 6 feet in length.
It has written on it.
Aerodynamically compensated p s head.
Model number 855BU mod serial number 2724E
Store's reference 6A/21054
28 volt 20 amps
Rosemount engineering co England.

It's pre 1993 that's when Rosemount was sold to Goodrich

At 6ft in length, the first a/c that springs to mind is the Lightning, certainly not Tornado or Jaguar.

Could be Victor that's at least 5ft from memory, but would need to see a photo

My first though, given the length, was a Gnat as I had one myself years ago and it was of similar dimensions to the one you describe but I cannot recall who made it.

Might it have been installed on a civil aircraft?

I'll check on the Gnat pitot in Hangar 2 tomorrow for any i.d. markings!

I've been looking at more pictures on the Internet and from memory it looks to have a shaped end like a sea harrier frs 1 or a hawker hunter pitot tube.
But can't tell the length of those.
Some photos of the lightning pitot tube look like the end of the tube is rounded where as this one is quite pointed .
I will try and get some photos this weekend and post them.

It may well be a special FTI pitot from P02 used for early airspeed measurement trials and high AOA trials. Check photos of P02/XX946 at Cosford

Hi , no I've still got no ID on the pitot tube.
I've taken some pictures on my phone but haven't a clue how to post them on the forum.
I don't have flickr or anything like that to upload them from.

Cheers Mark - no more info, just curious. Looking at the photogs section it does seem Flickr is the only way to post pics.

I have both a Hunter and Victor pitot head, so I will check for markings and see if they have anything in common.
