I went to see this at the cinema last year (special showing in a local trust held cinema), It's basically the footage shot during the making of the Memphis Belle documentary, of which about 15 hours were shot in total, and with colour remastered and definition improved etc. it's a great documentary and amazing how it looks like it was shot yesterday now rather than faded and aged.

Thank for the heads up too!

An excellent documentary. Been trying to get this on DVD. Only available from USA and only Region 1, so no good for UK.

If you have a games console e.g. PS2 onwards, that may play it, as a lot of these were region agnostic with regards to DVD's, but check first.

Only bit I don't understand is that I was looking at it on IMDB and it says the film is 1hr 41 mins long (though on Wiki they say it is 72 mins?!)
So they must be showing some abridged version on the Sky channel.

Does any one know what airfields were shown?

Thanks, Dave

Looks like RAF Bassingbourn was the main airfield they filmed from as that's where the Memphis Belle was based (https://www.americanairmuseum.com/place/28). Also, it seems the HBO version (https://www.hbo.com/documentaries/the-cold-blue) released in America is the full 72 minutes but you can't stream that in the UK.

The footage of the airfield being looked down on from a circling aircraft towards the end of part 1 was indeed Bassingbourn.

Watched this morning in uhd, takes your breath away. I remember when I was in my 20's can't imagine doing what they did.The mention of the greatest generation is in my view correct. The alternative is unimaginable and the statistic on screen that more airmen of the 8th air force died than all the marines in the war is startling.
God bless them all.
