Hi all have noticed recently an increase in the number of RAF aircraft that have designated names assigned to air frames so I thought I might try making a list of them.
P8:
ZP801 "Pride Of Moray"
ZP802 "City Of Elgin"
A-400M:
ZM400 "City Of Bristol"
E3-D
ZH101 - "Doc"
ZH103 - "Happy"
ZH106 - "Grumpy"
1435flt (Typhoons):
"Faith"
"Hope"
"Charity"
"Desperation"
6Sqn Typhoon
Sir Roderick

Just In service currently as otherwise I think the list would become a bit long

E-3D Sentry fleet (names carried inside the crew door on the port side) :-
ZH101 - Doc
ZH102 - Dopey
ZH103 - Happy
ZH104 - Sleepy
ZH105 - Sneezy
ZH106 - Grumpy
ZH107 - Bashful
Only 3 (I think) are still in service though ('101. '103 & '106).

Have any of the RAF's P8 flown on any training missions yet?

Most of the VC10 fleet were named after people who were awarded the VC… and the Shackleton AEWs after characters from the Magic Roundabout.. list could be big as already said...

According to posts on this very forum both ZP801 and ZP802 have flown 8 sorties each since their respective arrivals.

Aircraft down in the Falkland Islands used to have names, not sure if they still do.

With the reduced size of the RAF each transport / patrol aircraft could be dedicated to a squadron. Nice way to keep squadron number plates and history alive.

The Phantoms were Faith, Hope, Charity - after the Gladiators in Malta - with the addition of Desperation. They shared the 1435 number plate.
McRoberts Reply - a famous Stirling - and a name which moved, eventually, on to a/some (?) Tornado(s). Was that 15 sqd.?

The typhoons also share the same names.

A 6 Sqn Typhoon was a sort of replacement for the 15 Sqn McRoberts Reply.
