Isn't a compote a type of jam?

It's also French for mixture.

I see the new variant hasn't removed any of the ugly.

No Cat and Trap on our carriers, so they couldn't carry enough fuel or cargo to be useful. Bit like the F35's.

If they tried to land or takeoff that way they would bend their rotors and oh fudge the deck.

The USN seems to find them fine without needing to or being able to use cat and trap! think about it!

The F35B seems to be doing as designed, and is useful!

Presumably we actually need several of these?

Always seen the CMV-22B (now designated) as a primary requirement for the enhanced operational effectiveness of the RN. QE. Class Carriers, with regard to VERTREP. I'm sure I read somewhere the Deck-lift sizes & Hangar Deck heights on the QE. Carriers were determined with potential V-22 usage in mind. With the comparatively restricted range of the Merlin it seems like CMV-22 would be a good move, albeit a new type to purchase/integrate/operate. Should've saved the Merlin 'Crowsnest' budget & developed a dedicated EC-22 AEW platform to protect these large assets properly? ;)
COST I hear you scream! Really! :O After the Money-pit that is the RN.Carrier/F-35B procurement...why stop now?
Now, we wait for the announcement of the KC-22T 'Saviour' designated version to mitigate the dodgy RN.Carrier/F-35B acquisitions so far. That would complete the set to add some range/recovery-margins to our fuel-starved F-35B jets & support long-range COD missions....just sayin'
