I heard on the grapevine that it could be Little Snoring airfield once the runway and hangars there have been improved - just a rumour though!

The disruption to the based assets at Waddington would surely be to much to consider that as a serious alternative to Scampton?

With the retirement of the sentinel at some point in next 5 years I think there would be plenty of room.

Rumours are rumours, and unless your still in the (much reduced) RAF. I suspect they will be just that until the MoD decides.

Its not about room at Waddington, when the Red Arrows practice it shuts down the base, this would have an impact on Waddington's flying schedule.

That didn't really work at Cranwell, hence why they stuck them back at Scampton

Hot news! Straight from the MOD :ninja: (off the record sauce).

The RAFAT completed move will be public news during 2022. An announcement prior to the move is expected during late 2020.

It’s Marham, nothing moves there nowadays.

I thought i read somewhere that wittering was an option as it was too excpensive to break up the runways etc and return it to agricultural use

Wittering is now RAF Movement & Logistics etc and has Tutors so no chance. And from memory the land is on part of the Burghley estate (or something like that).

As for the new home for the Reds.....

The problem is, where else do you put them? Cranwell and Wittering are potentially far too busy, with daily aircraft movements maybe in the 50s and above? Coningsby again probably has more individual movements and already has BBMF. Waddington has relatively few him based sorties compared to the others as the majority of flying there is relatively long ISTAR stuff. Short of giving them a dedicated airfield (errrr, wait a sec), there are very few options.

Time will tell. :)

There are potentially other options for the practice airspace. Probably includes Scampton!
