Combat Aviation Brigade swap over Oct 19

Post by slogen51 » Wed Sep 25, 2019 7:07 am

Chatting at the fence I was reminded that the US Army helicopter swap over happens soon

I can see from ARC website that Endurance is scheduled to head east from Savannah arriving at Zeebrugge on 14 October.

As I didn't see the choppers come over in February I am thinking of going to Eindhoven to try and get the 1st Infantry redeployment back to CONUS.

The only boat I can see heading west is the Integrity leaving Bremerhaven on the 26-10-19 and calling at Antwerp on the 28-10 so will they even use Eindhoven again?

Does anyone on here know the general format of the swap over - are they planning to use Eindhoven again.

I missed the February deployment east so would like to get something heading home and I guess the next deployment will be going into Chievres at the same time?

Thanks if anyone has any other information and any hints and tips!

I believe Eindhoven will be the staging Airfield for the returnee Helicopters ( no exact dates known )

The helicopters can be put into buildings/warehouses @ Rotterdam Port before any boat has arrived .

Scramble MB can be used to I.d any previous trends regarding this issue

No dates, but via US Army for some info:

<<Soldiers with the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, and 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, are slated to deploy to Europe in mid-October in support of Atlantic Resolve.

The incoming armored rotation is based out of Fort Hood, Texas, and the aviation rotation is based out of Fort Stewart, Georgia. They are the fifth iteration of Atlantic Resolve heel-to-toe rotations. They will deploy to various locations throughout Europe where they will conduct multinational training and security cooperation activities with allies and partners.

The armored brigade will deploy with more than 3,500 Soldiers and approximately 85 Abrams tanks; 135 Bradley fighting and fire support vehicles; 15 Paladins; and other support equipment.

“The Blackjack Brigade is well-led, expertly maintained and incredibly lethal,” said Maj. Gen. Paul Calvert, 1st Cavalry Division commander. “There is no doubt that they are ready to execute this mission. While in Europe, the troopers of this brigade will continue to increase their readiness while supporting the United States' effort to deter aggression. In doing so, our allies will be assured of the enduring commitment of the U.S. to security in Europe.”

The aviation brigade's approximately 1,700 Soldiers will deploy with approximately 50 UH-60 and HH-60 Black Hawks; 10 CH-47 Chinooks; 20 AH-64 Apaches; and 2,000 pieces of support equipment.>>

It strikes me as odd that they don’t just leave the kit in Europe for the next brigade/division etc. to pick up!

Glad they don't do that :)

According to Scramble the "1st Division" currently have 85 helicopters in Europe that should all go back home to Fort Riley.

I could imagine that one of the objecties for the deployment is to train all aspects including embarking and disembarking on the Endurence. When only the first rotation gets that experience the gained value for the others is considerably Lower.

Most likely 24 Apaches en 12 Chinooks, like last deployments. At the time of these deployments they also mentioned 20/10, but in reality it was 24 and 12 choppers.

Hi, be advised rumours at Eindhoven are suggesting that all helicopters from Germany to Rotterdam will go via Geilenkirchen this time.... not confirmed.
