F35 Question
F35 Question
On seeing Golden Eagle's great photo's in Spangdahlem 25-07-19 post. Showing F35's with AIM9's on the Wings. My question is, do our F35's have this capability?
Re: F35 Question
UK doesn’t use Sidewinders, but, yes it has the capability for wing pylons.
Re: F35 Question
UK F-35Bs will have AIM-132 ASRAAMs carried on wing pylons. Currently not cleared for weapons bay carriage.

The ASRAAM fit was planned for internal weapons bay but later amended.

Re: F35 Question
Thanks for the info Guy's. I knew UK doesn't use Sidewinders anymore.

Re: F35 Question
Another F-35 question, but not worth making a new thread for it....
In terms of the F-35B, you often see them transitioning into the hover and then landing vertically.
You also see them performing short take off runs.
Do you ever see them take off vertically? Aside from this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW28Mb1 ... heedMartin) with one of the test aircraft a number of years ago, I don't think I've ever seen an F-35B repeat the same manoeuvre.
I realise that there's probably no reason to conduct one unless absolutely necessary, but curious as to whether it is still ever performed or trained on.

Re: F35 Question
It can do but it would have to be carrying minimal fuel and there really isn't much call for it, it may be practiced once in a blue moon in the sim but not with the real thing.
