Point taken though being pedantic it was the Weapons System Officer, not the Pilot. Time out fella.

Another WSO to lose his job due to photos being passed on.

Doubt it, there was photos on here a few days ago of them taking off at Lakenheath with the flag visible and the WSO wearing a red cowboy hat.

If it’s something they can lose their job over I doubt they’d be stupid enough to do it whilst still at base.

Not doubting published photos may have affected air crews in the past but let’s not catastrophise things.

Maybe they trusted photographers not to pass it to the media. But who knows.

If they’re doing it within the base perimeter/airspace then it would be visible to people on bade regardless of whether someone takes photos.

Maybe they have a slightly more relaxed approach once the mission is over and they're nearly home. Coupled with a PR angle towards winning friends and a moment of fun. Maybe a telling off or comment by the base commander but hopefully no harm done. Unlike the RAF Typhoon pilot and subsequent lack of that type through the Loop. Some will smile, others will frown.

Maybe they figured it was something they could do, that didn't impact on safety, that would make people smile. Maybe they even checked with the boss if it would be ok?

What I suspect they didn't figure is that it would come under scrutiny by the photography police.

Flying the Loop I’m pretty sure he’s not that stupid as to get into trouble with it, nice bit of PR for USAF

On behalf of my long late father-in-law, Tom, a Welsh WW2 navigator, who survived two tours and twice shot down, injured once, “Well done laddie “

The WSO gets my vote of support. Was he a Grim Reaper?

The so called showboating , in the low fly zones have a tolerance of about zero.
Not speculating but the F18 Hornet crash yesterday in the Star wars canyon in the USA.
Shows how things when gone wrong in a split second ends in a unpleasant way.

Maybe it was the backseaters last tour or suchlike before leaving either these shores or the USAF totally, so was his way of saying goodbye.

Maybe those people who are critical of what the weapons officer did in these shots should give up taking photos of jets and just sit at home, since they clearly feel they can't be relied on to handle photographs of such a sensitive subject :P
