Worrying, very worrying.

Sabre rattling maybe, a warning that the capability and will is there to act aggressively if pushed further? Iran must know it can't withstand a seriouis assault by the US.

Iran refrained from blowing up an American plane with 35 people on board that was accompanying the unmanned drone the Revolutionary Guard Corps shot down, an Iranian commander said Friday.

“With the US drone in the region there was also an American P-8 plane with 35 people on board,” Amir Ali Hajizadeh, head of the Guard’s Aerospace Force, was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency.

“This plane also entered our airspace and we could have shot it down, but we did not,” he said.

The P-8 Poseidon — based on Boeing’s 737-800 airframe — carries anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare equipment, as well as shipping interdiction and electronic support measures.

A few years ago Iran was becoming more moderate until tough Western sanctions gave the Iranian hard liners the ammunition they needed. It is pathetic the way both sides are behaving. "He flew into our airspace so we will shoot it down". Ridiculous , they should raise the issue with the UN not threaten all out war.

The UN is a total waste of time. It has no teeth, and general does nothing because of vetos.

Did I read last year that many of Iran's F14s were to be retrofitted / upgraded in the USA sometime this year? Perhaps not so now. I've seen that it wishes to keep this airframe going up to 2030 at least as an air superiority fighter interceptor having turned down F15 when offered. Likely now to be Chinese replacements, if not Russian I guess.

On a slightly more responsive note.... I don't recall the Shah being interested in the F-15, they almost got as far as ordering early version F-16s however... Then 40 years ago it all went a bit pear shaped....

Hawkwind26, The reason behind pretty much all Tomcats that didn't go into US museums, being crushed.... should be fairly obvious

Thanks for the responses, did read that almost all F14s were crushed, gate guards or museumed - better lay off the evening cheese.

They got a lot further than almost ordering early F-16s, following the Jan'79 revolution, their order for 75 F-16A/Bs was diverted to Israel! Ironically soon after delivery some if these were used against Iran's sworn enemy!

Looks like it will kick off again very soon following today's announcement regarding uranium enrichment. Cannot see the POTUS cow toing to Iran for much longer. Will they go it alone or seek Allies? We don't have a choice do we.

Of course we have a choice! I really don't see any of the U.S. allies having any appetite for taking on Iran in any kind of war scenario.

Really? UK troops board oil tanker carrying Iranian crude oil in " Spanish" waters after the USA tracks it's passage. Against EU sanctions - could all be fake news of course.
