Right this is just a idea. Recently the red air contract was cancelled and I was thinking of a alternative. In a few years time we are supposed to be retiring the sentinel aircraft and at the same time South Korea are looking into purchasing a similar machine. How about both governments doing a swap sentinels for Fa-50's . A similar deal is being worked out by Spain for transport aircraft.

The RAF still has Red Air capability with 100 Sqn providing a 2nd Gen threat and IX(B) 4th Gen. Notwithstanding whether the RoKAF actually want Sentinel, the utility of Sentinel is such I’d be surprised if it disappeared from the inventory anytime soon.

100 Squadron has no connection whatsoever with Sentinel capabilities.

I don’t think any contract was cancelled, no contract was pursued or signed in the first place.

EGVP,

Seeing as you answered on his behalf, maybe you can also explain the Sentinel/FA20 connection Fighterphoto refereed to, where he said "Red Air capability with 100 Sqn"

I will explain on Chris' behalf - what Fighterfoto said was "The RAF still has Red Air capability with 100 Sqn providing a 2nd Gen threat" (with the Hawk). He wasn't addressing the Sentinel part of the OP's query he was talking about the "red air contract" part of the query...

There is no connection, just the concerned putting a theory together. That being, the UK giving Sentinels whenever the RAF finally retires them to the RoKAF in exchange for some of these

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KAI_T-50_Golden_Eagle

Really very much doubt the RoKAF is going to buy second hand. Fighterfoto pointed out why would you need any Red Air capability when they have 100 Sqn and now IX(B) Sqn

If only the RAF had all that money spare to not only train new flight crews, but also ground techs and elecs, handlers, seat techs.......

Most people see things like this as just a new aircraft and don't think of the infrastructure required for such a purchase.

Having grown up in Bomber County since 1970, I am well aware of what the requirements are for a new type entering service.

Having witnessed Tornado F.2/F.3 enter service.

The theory at the top was a daft one in the first place.
