Ramstein C-130 D Day 75th Marking

Post by Gary » Sun Mar 31, 2019 7:31 pm

A couple of Ramstein C-130s have been given anniversary marking.
Dalibor Ankovic provided Scramble with a great image of Ramstein, taken on 30 March 2019.

Two C-130J-30 Super Hercules' were pulled out of the Ramstein air base (Germany) maintanance hangar on to Ramp 1… The 86th Airlift Wing Boss Bird plus one more Super Hercules are now painted with the well known D-Day invasion stripes in commemoration of the June 2019 D-Day ceremonies. As known, this year it was 75 years ago when that this historical day took place.

The C-130J-30s with serials 08-8601/RS and 07-8608/RS of 37th Airlift Squadron will most probably both be seen in the planned massive flying parade over Normandy (France) in June.

Is any more info known about the 'planned massive flypast in June'. Will this flypast also involve the UK similar to the 50th Anniversary of D-day. many thanks

Think I've seen in a daily an ad by Duxford telling 30+ C-47s are taking part, but don't know specific date or what and where.

The website www.daksovernormandy.com/program/ lists all the civilian preparations for the 75th D-Day celebrations. These will include 30+ DC-3 / C-47 flying from Duxford, UK to Caen, France, on the 5th June with some dropping parachutists on route. You will see from the dates that NO civil aircraft will fly on Thursday 6th June. This is presumably a security measure as world leaders, and Mr Trump, will be present in France at the various memorial sites in the Normandy area.
If there are any parachute drops or formation fly-bys it will be on the 6th June by military aircraft only. Not heard any details of such events.

The annual military parachute drop at La Fière marshes (W of Sainte Mère Eglise) is on Sunday 9th June at 13.00 local. There are scheduled to be 30 aircraft and 1000 paratroopers.
