once again the civil servants are trying to save money but it will ultimately end up costing the RAF more.

Surely DACT can be undertaken with other NATO Forces, who now have a wide variety of fast jets including those manufactured by Russia. Or we could buy a few F5's from the boneyard!

F5s in RAF colours? Paddy will be in heaven.

He wouldn't be the only one, it's a lovely wee plane.

I thought this was going to be one of 9 Sqns new roles along side QRA, so why pay an outside contractor to do the same job over and above?

What company was in contention for this contract, as I haven’t seen anything mentioned before.

Who said 9 Sqn would do DACT, they will be tasked to be Agressors, which is a bit different.

Does sound like one of those deals, of giving contracts to a ferry company with no ferries.

I think you'll find it's UK Government that sets the MoD budget, the "beancounters" at MoD then have to allocate and spread that budget to priorities and demands. If (like me) you feel the armed forces are stretched and underfunded then that frustration is directed purely towards the (currently incompetent beyond belief) Government in power.

As you say Agent K it is the Government and the
Minister who gets put in the job by who ever is charge at 10 Downing St who pass it down the chain to some Civil servant usually ingnore any advice from the Chief of Staffs .
Hence the bean counters

There’s no doubt the UK needs an Airborne Agressor unit The T1’s of 100 squadron & Cobham FA20’s won’t be around for much longer (the FA20’s are due to be retired next year). I suspect the full ASDOT program requirements will be trimmed to satisfy the bean counters. One would like to think the replacement aircraft type for the Reds (whenever this will be) & the UK’s need for an multi-task aircraft type which can meet the requirements of ASDOT would go hand in hand..?
