3.30 this morning I put on the TV and braking news was that the Indian air force had struck a target in Pakistan.
For those who have Sky TV, there are English language Indian News channels on 510 and 520.
I went over to them to hear 12 IAF aircraft had hit a terrorist training camp in Pakistan with laser guided 1,000lb bombs and Bomb Damage Assessment was now being conducted.
At 7.00am Sky, BBC and ITV news were talking about Brexit and the Chelsea goal keeper, but not this.

On BBC website earlier it was saying that IAF jets flew 3-4 miles inside the Line of Control presumably to undertake a raid, got jumped by PAF jets, jettisoned their loads over open ground, and Foxtrot Oscar'd. Who knows what actually happened..

5.30pm and it's still the only story on those two Indian news channels.
Sky 520 is reporting that the 12 jets struck three terrorist camps in Pakistan killing 350.
Pakistan's artillery is now shelling India and schools have been shut.

One elderly Indian has stated "By retaliating, this shows Pakistan supports terror. Now Indian school children will not be able to sit exams tomorrow because of this Pakistani action".

This morning's story on 520 is that an IAF jet has since crashed due to technical problems killing two aircrew and one civilian.
Over on 510 they're reporting a Pakistani F16 has crashed in the Lam Valley.

An Indian official just held a press conference and confirmed one Mig-21 was shot down. He claimed the second downed jet was a Pakistani Mig-21

They have Chengdu J-7s which I believe are Chinese licensed copies of the Mig-21.

It's as if both sides don't want to risk losing any of their more capable aircraft and are using the old soon to be retired kit. Interesting.

If you are monitoring the right channels , there is a lot of talk this morning about avoiding the area.
Initially RCH flights were advised that airspace restrictions applied only to civil flights , however
Pakistan is now not allowing any a/c through .

In addition to diverting , RCH are advised to change their callsigns before approaching the area.
They are having to divert to " the D" , which I assume is the alternate ?

One flight has been advised that if the cargo they have can't get to the destination , it has to go all the way back to Dover.That's going to be a looooong flight!

Tonight at 5.30 on Sky 510; "We have lost a MiG 21.Pilot unaccounted for. We have shot down a F16 and their pilot is in custody".

Late yesterday the Indians stated their strike lasted for 21 minutes over Pakistan. The Sukhois were supported by tanker aircraft.

Hi all,
It will be very interesting to see how this develops from now on!
Earlier this evening, it was being reported that India & Pakistan were both carrying out air strikes
and constant shelling (presumably from tanks?) from, and into, each other's territories.
If this carries on, I would not be at all surprised that an Emergency Meeting of the United Nations
may be hastily convened to try to come to some sort of agreement to limit/prevent any other
hostilities occurring on both sides.
If they cannot stop this, then the situation may well escalate into an all out war between these two (nuclear weapons armed!) Countries.
Hopefully, they will draw back and reconsider their positions before it eventually gets any where near this.
No doubt also, U.S. Military Intelligence resources are most closely monitoring all of this (and Comms) via satellite! --Paul

Why did India use clapped out MiG21"s for this mission. Seems weird. From what I have seen on the news the area is quite mountainous and perfect for Jaguars flying in the weeds. They could have probably got in and out with less chance of detection and interception. I think the Indians need to send some here to train in the loop.

Between the procurement process in the Indian MOD and the IAF safety record I'm surprised that the PAF don't just sit back and wait 'till the Indians run out of airframes.
