Scudpilot -

Mike is hoping to fly in/out with his ex-Swiss AF Alouette II and Terry is considering flying the Wasp.

We are also expecting some visiting Helicopters with numbers/types/timings to be confirmed. Watch this space for updates.

Please note - The attendance of any Helicopter depends on the weather and aircraft serviceability.

Cheers!

Hi Jolly Green,
Are the helicopters open to view all day, just asking as I would only have a couple of hours free and have to travel a 100 miles or so. Thanks.

Hello bruiser,

It's a bit out of the way - doubt you'll get a bus to it. The 96 Bus does go Crewkerne to Chard, but doesn't go up the A30 past the site. The 96A and 96C do, but are very irregular and I'm not sure they'll stop where you need to get off. There are train stations at Chard and Crewkerne, so a taxi from either of these may be possible. However, Chard/Crewkerne are on the Waterloo-Sailsbury-Yeovil Junction-Exeter line, and if you're in Yeovil, then I wouldn't advise you try and walk to Yeovil Junction station. It's about 2 miles south of the town up a narrow, steep rat-run of a road with no pavement. There are busses from Yeovil to Crewkerne (the 96 again), but not very regular, and you'd best swat up on the timetable to avoid a very long walk.

If you end up in Crewkerne and need to speak to a local, be advised it's pronounced crook-kern. :P

Probably best not to speak to Locals, you won't know what they're sayin' anyway! Definitely don't accept sweets from anybody, or accept lifts from strange (all?) Tractor-drivers.
If you end up in Crewkerne and think you see a 'Lady of the Night', be advised that most wear sheepskin coats!..... I love it down 'ere! :thumb:

Ere, what's wrong with we locals???

Don't drive a tractor - but went to School in Crookurn!

As a side story, when I was involved in Silver Control for one of the largest events in my town, there was a discussion between the 'blue light' services and myself (on behalf of the event organisers), regarding re-opening a road within the town to let traffic leave easier.

The road in question headed to Crewkerne, and said it like I normally do (so said Crookurn). The Fire Officer present, who I went to School with, said that only a true man of Somerset says the name like that, outsiders don't!
