Plenum Chamber Harrier - Weston Helicopter Museum

Post by ChrisGilligan » Fri Jan 04, 2019 12:36 pm

Having lived in the area for near on 6 years, I cant believe I missed the fact that The Helicopter Museum at Weston Super Mare currently have the Harrier test frame and rig for the Plenum chamber burning tests. A really interesting piece of kit.

The museum are currently seeking anyone who may be able to help piece it all back together again.

I struggle with Airfix so it's out of my remit, but it would be amazing if someone with the necessary skills saw this.

Interesting article, I thought the plenum chamber tests were before 1983 but didn't know the tests have helped the F-35 development. Its worth reading John Farley's book 'A View From The Hover', he talks about flying the VAAC Harrier which directly led to the control laws for the F-35 flight controls.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Very interesting little read. Never visited the helicopter museum at Weston, but will now.

It’s definitely worth a visit. It’s not the most tidy, clutter free or photogenic museum in the world but there’s some gems to be found in there.
