Red Arrows in the USA

Post by robyoung » Fri Dec 28, 2018 9:33 pm

As the Red Arrows are heading to the USA next year, check out a clip from Jas Hawker interview as he chats about leading the team over there in 2008. ‬

Schedule is normally released in the spring.

Would think they would leave the UK sometime after RIAT.

I think they are scheduled to be in U.S.A. during August and September.

According to information given out at the Lincolnshire Airspace Users Group meeting at RAF Cranwell in December the Red Arrows will be away from 10th August until 1st October. Think those were departure and return dates.
Hope that helps you all.
P.S. Warm weather training dates are between 29th April and 1st June - same source of info.

That's a really long US. Tour of around 7 weeks & will impact the typically 'free' Seaside Air-shows/ Regatta, Carnival throughout August & September greatly. I can quite foresee the lack of Reds at these events in 2019 making such venues non-viable going forward into 2020. Even established Air-show venues like Dunsfold must be 'bricking-it! Can't see any cash-strapped Local Authority getting budget approval for investment into an Air-show that doesn't return guaranteed multiples to the Local Economy by virtue of visitor numbers?
With a maximum period of barely 10 weeks (based on dates above?) between 1st June &10th Aug....minus Team-leave, pre-deployment leave, preparation, etc, there are going to be very few chances to see the Reds in 2019.
Should they go to the USA/Canada for that long? Hell, YES!!

I'm hoping they persuade the Blue Angles to come back with them... Was it 1992 there were last here at Finningley?

I think you're right & in absolutely awful weather. I'm sure most of their truncated display was at about 250 feet due to low cloud & mist? I did see them more recently in Leuwarden as part of their 'European Tour' which also took in a Balkan airbase, Italy & USN Facility in Spain IIRC. With no appearance in the UK I'm guessing we weren't part of Europe back then either?
PS:- 'Blues Homecoming Show' at Pensacola is normally first/second week of November, so very short 'window for Blues' & no events in balmy UK in October! ;)
