Assuming you mean Tornado F3 the A codes were the OCU (229) later 56(R) squadron.

During the early 1990s 229OCU/65sqd (at Coningsby) ran out of letters (AA-AZ) so used numbers following the A for a while I have ZE794 carrying A4. Don't know if all the numbers were used but I logged A2, A4, A5, A7, A8. If only the OCU now had over 30 airframes, damn simulators!!

Of course as jakdaw says, 65 was the first shadow squadron, then it later became 56, and yes once they'd used AA - AZ up during the build up, they then went A1 +++
