I take it the upgrades are the 2017 start of the replacment of the flight control software on the Chinook Mk.3 special forces helicopters, a mere 16 years after bungled attempts to use its own software without involving manufacturer Boeing.Fleetlands were

Plan is for up to 16 Chinooks to replace some of the older models in the UK fleet under Capability Sustainment Program. Likely to be configured like MH-47G.

Who, or what, is the 'R af', and also, the 'raf'?

Re: RAF to get another 16x chinooks
I suspect the original poster typed the message on a phone perhaps?
As for the HC.3s they were upgraded to HC.5s under project Julius, and were the last to follow the HC.2/2As into that conversion line IIRC.
Having been stored after that bungled fiasco I seem to recall them being rebuilt after storage about 9 years ago....

The Pumas will be replaced. The reference to pumps is clearly a typo.

Is it only me (thick and thick-skinned) who is starting to detect more than a whiff of 'UKAR' syndrome on FC

Not just you paddyboy. On every forum there are those who relish picking up on typos even when it’s blatantly obvious what the OP intended to post

Given that the owner of UKAR has started too, if not already passed over control of it to others who are mods on it due to increasing health issues (Kidney transplant apparently needed within a couple of years) I'm not surprised.
Indeed all the forums have gone down a slippery slope in the last few years....

But is it really that difficult for people to review what they have posted and then correct any clearly obvious errors?Blue Diamond wrote: ↑Sun Oct 21, 2018 3:25 pmNot just you paddyboy. But is it really that difficult to move on without the usual UKAR need for unnecessary pedantry? We choose Fighter Control to escape that kind of tosspottery...TonyO wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 11:20 amBut is it really that difficult for people to review what they have posted and then correct any clearly obvious errors?Blue Diamond wrote: ↑Sun Oct 21, 2018 3:25 pmNot just you paddyboy. Re: RAF to get another 16x chinooks
Have to say that while I got the 16 Chinooks ordered, I didn't get the Puma reference at all as I thought they were going before 2025, and I thought 'Chinooks upgraded to' was an unfinished sentence, 'upgraded to...... what? Agree with Tony O, its easy to check what you've written so the post is clear. maybe a link to further info too as others have subsequently posted as with they typos the post has missed a large part of informing readers with details.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Re: RAF to get another 16x chinooks
I thought the Pumas were getting new cabs with the HC2 upgrades?
