Re: Pigeon chicks rescued from HMS Queen Elizabeth by FAA
What a waste of tax payers money, I sincerely hope that the helicopter was returning to shore anyway.

Quite. Vermin rescued at the tax payers expense. How much fuel was used? How much crew time? What is the effective cost?
A cute story that might make the public smile... until they really think about it

What a bunch of miserable sods!
'Waste of fuel, blah blah blah...', 'Vermin, blah blah blah...', 'What about crew hours, blah blah blah...'
It's a good news story for the Royal Navy that the public most likely will lap up, which equals good PR for the RN. Fuel won't have been wasted, neither will crew hours, flying from, and possibly back to the ship if the helicopter wasn't actually scheduled to return to shore, will be considered as valuable training in helicopter ops form the new ship.
Imagine the uproar from Joe Public if it had got out that the RN had simply punted the nest and it's occupants into the 'oggin?
Seems some people are never happy unless they're moaning about the most pathetically trivial things...

Plenty of "vermin" being saved (or allowed to survive) at tax-payers expense with all the "spice heads" plaguing many towns and cities.
The Pigeons are less hassle.

Or go onto Youtube and search for "Pelican eats pigeon" videos, there's stacks of them that have been taken in Hyde Park.
