Turkish F-35 Delivery Blocked

Post by MRTT » Tue Aug 14, 2018 6:50 am

Been a long time coming but, Trump has blocked the sale/delivery of F-35s to Turkey. Two aircraft on strength will be placed in storage.

Working fine here, have you blocked cookies from The Drive in the past?

Isn't that detrimental to US Industry? Like the China trade tariffs possibly affecting American consumers who will have to cover the price hikes of Chinese imports? America first!

Turkey is in a bit of a mess just now, with the Russians getting more involved in the country as well. I wonder if it is going to remain in NATO.

I was thinking this earlier. Why did the UK ever consider sending 'our' over-priced toys to some dysfunctional location for engine-servicing....even just the engines is a bad move!
I like to remain non-judgemental, but only managed to be mental that they got millions of Euro's to build our bleeding Ford Transits, instead of investing in the traditional UK Plant at Southampton. :grr:

It's all political, jobs as part of the deal for buying them in the first place.

Thought the engines will be done at Woensdrecht as far as I know.

Announced in 2014. The UK got its fair share of the work in manufacturing.

So if Turkey can't have the F35 assume Netherlands and Norway will now pick up all the engine work. Good, sounds much safer.

Or even better, let our (and other) be engines be done in the UK. Why not?

Unless this is resolved soon, I can see Turkey slowly but surely being driven into the arms of Russia.

If Turkey has 2 actual F35s there are obviously worse security implications if the US refuse to supply more. (For the US there were always security issues with selling stealth abroad.). Could Turkey swap them with the Russians as part of a nice deal to buy Russian jets; they have already bought a very good Russian AA missile system. So what now? A very quick expensive buy back or some other inducements to retrieve them before the Russians dismantle them? The US has obtained Russian aircraft from customers so it might be pay back time. No doubt the Russians are already making offers.
Bye the way the US wanted Turkey in the EU!

The aircraft are still in the US I believe. Be interesting to know what'll happen to the air- and ground-crew out there with them!

After Vietnam was taken over I remember seeing, in a US facility, a lot of F5s that were not going to be delivered to Vietnam. Not sure what finally happened to them, but probably sold on to others.

I believe a lot of them ended up in USAF as aggressors, there were a lot at Williams AFB in the late 70s/early 80s.
