Another MP jumps on the make me popular bandwagon - Low Flying Complaints

Post by markymash » Wed Aug 08, 2018 3:36 pm

Liz Saville Roberts, MP for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, has started a consultation on the horrible effect that low flying in the Mach Loop and other low fly areas has on joe public. Just read the article.

I bet the complainers will be holiday cottage owners or incomers.

That MP has tried complaining before & nothing has ever come of it. As for this quote"Marian Rees, a resident of Tal-y-llyn, Gwynedd, has been campaigning against low-flying jets for 20 years.
She said: "In recent years the jets have got more powerful and so the noise is louder. You can feel it in your bones." Bet she can't wait until the F35's start flying through regularly!

Can you ask the complaining householder(s) to pm me with details of the properties involved?

Wonder if Ms Rees and Roberts would consider a "house swap" ??.....I live near the A40 at Northolt....constant noise 24/7 from lorries/cars/motorbikes etc...then there's the Central line operating all hours now and HS2 coming in the future......I'm sure,if they lived here, the peace and tranquility they aspire to would then be put into perspective by the odd low flying jet!

So were none of these people around in the old days when flying was far more common ?

One's been campaigning for 20 yrs so even that was only 1998 when flying was much less than in the 80's

Where do these people think the training should happen ?

To be fair it is apparent from the posts on this site since RIAT that there has been a recent increase. I mean there are nt normally Hornets, Mirages, Rafales etc flying thru the Loop but this was just a temporary increase. Obviously with the much reduced size of the RAF, smaller numbers of aircraft and especially the increased use of simulators for flying training it is impossible for the 'increase' to be permanent. Back in the 70s and 80s when we still had an Air Force and USAF had more than twice as many bases over here as it has now there was muuuuuch more low - flying. On a weekday you could nt drive thru the Vale of York w/out a fast jet, usually a Jag or Tornado, flitting across the windscreen. Nowadays you're lucky to see a Tucano!

This M.P. is NOT an idiot. She is an elected representative of her constituents, and is therefore duty bound to act on their behalf if they have a complaint, whether or not she agrees with it!. The thread title should be changed.

Agree about MPs not being idiots. There can't be many employed people who can decide about increases in their own payment package and retirement plans.

Tarring everyone with the same brush is not a good idea!. Nevertheless, my post stands. She is the peoples representative. My local M.P. is brilliant, and I have little doubt that quite a few M.P.s have the intellect that would enable them to be successful outside politics. Grapes are a little sour this morning!.

And to be fair, they were hardly low flying training, more photo ops for spotters, along with the numerous passes of F15's that frequent the area!

I remember when I was a warplane loving teenager hiking up a mountainside which was covered in pine trees - pretty sure it was in Wales, but forget where and a fast jet flew past just above the trees and my immediate reaction was to duck. If you don't realise where you are, and don't live there it can be very startling even to someone who loves military aviation. The people that live there though - come on, surely you get used to it, like I got used to growing up very near Stansted when the BAC 1-11s from Ryanair used to fly and the Il-76 from Volga Dnepr (Heavylift) - and the noise went on for hours, unlike the fast jets noise for a minute then it's gone.
