Is the rotary element repositioning to Stapleford aerodrome as suggested a few weeks ago?

Can anyone advise please. www.militaryairshows.co.uk says "The flypast will start in the vicinity of The Wash, The North Sea and Southwold, Suffolk and Southend then route from the hold via Swaffham and Thetford and Colchester..." and the NATS map shows two areas (B and C) which would back this up. However the simplified RAF website map shows a single route from Ipswich to London. Which is correct or are there two parts merging at the southern end? Thanks in advance for any help.

I get the impression from the various maps that because this flypast is much bigger than the recent QBF's that the various elements will be joining up in stages 'en route'. The individual elements that make up the flypast will 'join up' at various points (The Wash, Thetford area, Southwold etc.) and will then come together around Ipswich (which is what the simple RAF map suggests) - this main element of the flypast (certainly minus the rotary element and possibly BBMF) will then make its way down the 'corridor' to London.

I know that with the QBF the rotary element joins up around East London / Isle of Dogs and there is usually a fairly substantial gap between the rotary element and the main body of the flypast (a question of speed and safe distances between the various parts of the flypast I'd imagine). Now where the BBMF fit in (they come after the rotary element, I don't know for certain but I'd guess again because of the speeds involved that they aren't coming in all the way from Southwold and they slot in nearer London - I believe that's what happens with the QBF.

During the QBF this year the Bbmf and the Heli element joined at Lambourne after holding at Stapleford Tawney the assumption seems to be that during the 100yrs FP this will be repeated.
At least that's my understanding.
During the QBF the Heli element made a 90 degree left turn immediately after Buck pally over Sloane Sq .
BBMF we're practically turning right in the back garden of buck pally.
The other elements were spreading out as they crossed West London
For those still wondering where to go Find a map Draw a line from Buck pally to Kelvedon Hatch in Essex (North of Brentwood) this will be the centre line for the majority of the participants add in the factor of Bbmf and Heli elements joining after Stapleford Tawney and you have the basis of a viewing area

For the practice last week they started launching around mid day, but that was for a much smaller gathering.

So a little earlier than that possibly? Between 11.30 and 12.

Is anyone able to give me any feedback regarding the expected flight path of the RAF 100 flyover on Tuesday, in the vicinity of Stratford Olympic Park? Any feedback regarding whether the track is over the Southern end of the park, or perhaps the Northern end where the A12 meets the A102M?

If at this point the aircraft are perfectly lined up on the Mall/Buckingham Palace, then the track might even be over Hackney Marshes?

Does anyone have any experience from previous years observing the Queen's Birthday flyovers in this area?

Hi all,

Previously, a/c participants in QBF starting from Southwold have routed over my house just to the east of Ipswich, near hospital. However reports say they will be forming up to the west of Ipswich so I'm not sure whether to stay in my garden or move around. Has anyone any suggestions and do we know if the timings are the same as for QBF i.e. about 12:45 over Ipswich (13:00 Buck House).

No - 1pm / 13:00. NOTAMS are always in UTC (GMT to you and me!) so add 1 hour for summer.

The Queen's B'day flypasts usually go just a tiny bit further north of Colchester (other side of A12). Draw a straight line on a map from Stratford StMary to Kelvedon & the flypast should be almost bang on that line, or thereabouts.

Can't use the link but essentially yes, 51°55'16.0"N 0°54'02.0"E is just to the west of the Rugby Club. However I'm not familiar with previous flypasts over Colchester and Tankbuster is so I'd be more inclined to use his advice. The route is a well-used one for many years. Your call but don't shoot the messenger(s)! Hope you get to see it - some of us will be working with little or no chance of seeing anything or

I totally agree the marked route is over the Rugby Club. It is further South than the QBF route. Also there route according to the NOTAMS is South East of Ipswich, where the QBF goes over the North of Ipswich.
