It does sound a bit vindictive. especially leaving it till the end of the season. Maybe they had a "personality" clash

what does that actualy mean? I have no confidence in my dog taking itself for a walk, doesnt mean i'm going to swap it for another one. No, theres a very good reason for him being sacked, has to be a real good one, it is after all the end of the guys career and its not a decision to be taken lightly.
risk management style? loose cannon perhaps?

Perhaps the comments used are less familiar to those outside of the business world. My suggestion would be that the chap was happy to knowingly shrug off, accept or even encourage dangerous practices. In other words, he was sacked for doing something inexcusable. I’d imagine just what would be boring to most of us but the BaseOps forum might have something if anyone really wants to know.

I reckon some or most of the other pilots have probably turned on him, F-16 mafia not caring too much for someone from the F-15 community getting such a high profile job, even so that's his USAF flying career done for now. No one ever comes back from being relieved of duty (sacked) in the modern era.

It does quite clearly say the following, taken from the second link above:
Concerns emerged that his approach to leading the team increased risks and eroded team dynamics, they said.
“Acting on these concerns, General Leavitt determined that new leadership was necessary to ensure the highest levels of pride, precision and professionalism within the team,” said Maj. Malinda Singleton, an Air Force spokesperson.
Doesn't sound vindictive at all to me!

Brigadier General Jeanie Leavitt (Mrs) who removed him was an F-15 pilot.
