Hi All
Does anyone know what happened to the TC LIGHTNINGS? I know the aircraft was put up for sale, but eager to know what state they are in now and if there are any photos going about? Also I’m thinking of taking a drive up to binbrook to see the lightning they have there, has anyone been recently and can you get close, I’m hoping I win the euro lottery so I can save her!

They're currently all hangared at TC and in very good condition awaiting their fate, there has been murmurs that one or more may be returning to the UK, or not...

Taken today, but not by me!
** Image removed to stop the whingeing **
I've been asked not to report the location publicly but I'm sure some of you will know.

Great, thanks for the pic, I don’t think that’s the one at binbrook though? The one at binbrook was the last to fly in this country I was lead to believe? Also the lightning you have showed, isn’t that the actual lightning that intercepted “and over took ;-)” Concorde? She was the fastest of the Lightning’s same one which intercepted a u2?

F.6 XR724 is the one at Binbrook, it was flown back to Binbrook into the stewardship of the Lightning Association on the 23rd July 1992. The last Lightning to fly in the UK was F.6 XS904 which was delivered from BAe Warton to the Lightning Preservation Group at Bruntingthorpe on the 21st January 1993. As far as F.3 XR749 intercepting Concord, this tale has been said to be a little wide of the mark, the pilot said the interception was achieved from a 'stern conversion intercept' to overhaul Concord at M2.2, something which has been suggested was not possible to do on an already supersonic Concord...

Looks like Peterhead, why the secrecy?

Because the photographer asked me to remove the GPS data and not to say. IS there any more need?

The location of this Lightning is already very well known as it has its own page and current whereabouts listed on
http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk ... php?id=134
Perhaps the current owner isn't aware of this

Image removed to stop the autistic whingeing.
Its very simple. I was asked to remove the data. I removed it. I didn't consider it my responsibility to ask why he wanted it removing. He just thought people might be interested in the picture.
Clearly it was a mistake

But its solved now.

I sense you're unhappy about the feedback you have received, but see no need for the insulting language, unless it just makes you feel better. I'd prefer to see this left to other web sites as they can do the insults and tear themselves apart in a much more professional manner. FC is usually better than that.

Lol right....
I didn't get any feedback. It wasn't my photo. I just feel I wasted my time.
The airframe in question is privately owned, located on private ground, and isn't visible from public roads etc. I just thought perhaps someone wanted to see the image, and removed the GPS data as I was asked. Clearly it was too much for some people to handle.
Sorry for posting it.

Wow, autistic whingeing ! I'm not in a position to post here, mainly due to a lack of aviation activity in my area, I do on occasions in my local group which seems far friendly place in comparison to the petty mud slinging and pedantic antics of a very small minority on this site which is a shame as there is a wealth of knowledge on here and some very talented people but to read comments like that make me feel sick. If you were in a position where somebody in your family had autism, I doubt you would make such a crass comment. As a former Military flying instructor, I take great interest in the subject and enjoy the site and I'm grateful for the effort and time people take to share their love of aviation but having read some of the insulting talk towards fellow hobbyists, it puts me off wanting to visit this site. Surely this type of language should not be tolerated ?

Fair comment. I apologise for the autism comment. I shouldn't have said it.
I still don't see anything unreasonable about the removal of the GPS data though, or why anyone should have any issue with it at all.

I don't think anyone did have an issue with it?
You clearly said in your post that you were sure some people already knew where it was. Some people then replied saying where it was. Someone else also included a link to another website with the location clearly shown.
As it stands, YOU are the one that's whinging!

DAZZA. Tut tut. Concorde has always been spelt with an 'E' on the end. French for harmony and Union. Had a lovely Mach 2 flight deck trip on G-BOAB.

If Concorde was already supersonic, then no problem for the Lightning, but it surely depends on how supersonic Concorde was...............Mach 1, 1.5, etc.,
Story goes though that NATO sent all sorts of jets to Intercept, but only one managed! Would love to actually hear the pilots version, wonder if the concorde pilot is still about to share.

Apologies if the earlier link I posted was the reason that the Lightning image was taken down from this thread?
No need for all the secrecy though because this particular Lightning and it's location is
very well known anyway, and has been for a long time!
I guess the owner must have concerns about people trespassing on their land in order to have a look at this fine aircraft, which is fair enough I guess, but it's a bit late in the day to try and make the aircraft's current location a secret

It's Peterhead, don't know who the photographer is, but up in that neck of the woods they're pretty much friendly, and if open the guy on the gate is usually pretty happy for those with an Interest to go in and take a pic or 2.
At Peterhead Longside 5 mins away it's just as good, no mil but if you go Into the Clubhouse they are more than happy to let you have a walkaround unescorted, no Hi-Viz required either.
