During June this year, I made a tour (non-aviation) of Colorado by coach. Despite there being some great people on board the coach there was little or no aviation interest So I make this wild request of sites I passed on the way.

Between Denver and Grand Junction maybe one third of the way there we passed a petrol station on the LHS with a pole-mounted A.7 in Marine c/s at the entrance.

Between Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs, again at a petrol station, this time on the RHS, I saw a pole mounted F.4 in a dark c/s with a Huey-Cobra in light c/s to its RHS.

I was unable to take any pictures of the above so would like to get some tail numbers etc. in order to trace sources of some photos on-line.

I know its an extreme request, but I hope someone can help.

I've asked the question for you over on ARC discussion forum, mainly Americans with a large number of member living in Colorado. Hopefully they have the answers for you.

I think I've found the F-4D and the AH-1 for you, but the location is different from where you saw them and there should've been an UH-1 at the same location as well?

Don't think the Marine Corps ever had any A-7s, but its presumably an ex Colorado ANG machine possibly this one you saw.

Alternatively there is a Marine Corps A-6 preserved on a pole at Grand Junction

USMC went for the Harrier, instead of the A-7 Corsair, to replace its A-4 Skyhawks.

You can drill down to a particular state ... there is an A7 (70-1055) at 38.499132 -107.899320 (Montrose) but for that to have been on the left hand side of the road you would have to have been going in the opposite direction ? (and its not the most direct route between the two either but ......)

You might find the F-4 and the Huey on the same site ? Nothing immediate cropped up that I could see ... for these you could try google maps (its not much of a drive from Manitou to Colorado (Springs) but if you drop the "little man" bottom right on the road you can re-create your drive ... albeit a bit slower!!

Yes it's pretty cool ... will certainly be looking at it for some upcoming road trips ....it also highlighted some sightings at JAX a couple of years ago which I've been meaning to track down ...

I will have a look in my copy of USA Military Out of Service by Andy Marden when I get home from work. I love this book and use it when planning all my trips in the USA.
