Mildenhall or Brize would be best at a weekend. Mildenhall probably the best.

Your choice is very limited these days....Lakenheath and Marham will I'm sure be closed on a Saturday.
For me it would be Mildenhall but it can be hit and miss for movements and the same at Brize but either will be operational on a Saturday.
Maybe some of the other FCers on here, might be able to let you know if your chosen date will be busy.
Over to you guys.
Hope this is helpful.

Duxford museum would be my choice, as any of the bases will be a hit or miss.

MOJRuss wrote:Thanks for the replies guys, I think he's kinda set on brize but I've never been there before, ive found a map with spotting locations on just a bit worried as it's kinda isolated if its quiet
Cheers Russ
This will give you an idea of Brize movements on Saturdays
https://bzzspotters.blogspot.co.uk/ Personally I think you will probably see more movements at Mildenhall on a Saturday but it's hit and miss at both.

Hi MOJRuss, if you live in deep Essex (Takeley) then I'd suggest staying in the eastern side of the country rather than like you say, end up at Brize in the middle of no where, 3 hours from home, with almost nothing happening in the 6 hours of daylight we get right now. Save Brize for a day trip in the spring holidays when you can go on a week day and call by Benson and maybe even Fairford in the same day. If you do decide to come, have a trip to Kemble (about a 45 minute drive from Brize) in your back pocket in case there's really nothing happening and seeing some GA will tick a few boxes. Not much else as a local I can recommend but happy to help further if I can.

Not too put a downer on your weekend but the weather tomorrow is looking horrendous, I suspect you'll see a few movements at Mildenhall but the weather could have an affect.

Mildenhall weather is looking miserable tomorrow. I'd go for Duxford if you haven't been, it's a fabulous museum. Save the base trip for a weekday and do Lakenheath or Coningsby. If he's really set on it then go to Mildenhall as early as you can, stick it out for an hour in the rain and 'suggest' going to Duxford - it's a 40 minute drive - get there before noon and you'll have a great afternoon to make up for the morning

Duxford would be my destination of choice. Lots to see, people to talk to and Warm

& dry.
While you are there you could offer to take him to an airfield in the spring holidays as suggested above. Promise him a visit to Scampton as his tenth birthday present.
Have a great day

MY choice for a fab treat for the son would be
Duxford & then check MIldenhalls movements & fit a trip in if anythings going on.
They're not that far apart

Advice from a parent of longer term - think about a promise before you make it

Whatever happens, hope you both have a great day.

Mildenhall is your best bet ,but the weather is looking bad on Saturday, Gusts are expected and this may lead to diversions to Germany as often the case.

weekends at BZZ are boring as local flying isnt permitted. having popped into the RAF Museum at Hendon last weekend for a few hours, i would highly recommend, its free, parking is 4 quid and the aircraft are just wow.
whatever u decide, have a great day, my lad is 17 now and i miss that quality time, although we did go to Baa Baa's vs South Africa last week, with girlfriend in tow lol
