Not looking good Red Arrows won't display at Suffolk Show
Just read this.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-35659061
The Red Arrows team will not put on a display at the Suffolk Show this year, after the area was deemed "unsuitable".
I think this sort of thing might be on the increase this year.

Re: Not looking good.
The Red Arrows put on a full display at the Eye show a few years back.
Re: Not looking good.
The Red Arrows display most years at Chatsworth Country Fayre, also due to display at 1st Shuttleworth show this year.

Re: Not looking good.
If The Boss of the Red Arrows deems a venue to be unsuitable, then it is unsuitable. End of story.
Re: Not looking good.
Unsuitable based on RAFAT's requirements though, rather than anything else. RAFAT are not the be-all and end-all of display flying.Tally-ho wrote:If The Boss of the Red Arrows deems a venue to be unsuitable, then it is unsuitable. End of story.
Re: Not looking good.
Oh no they're not!.... pantomime season gets longer each year

Perhaps a modified thread title would be useful here

Re: Not looking good.
Not looking good for who? I've not met the chap, but I'd look up to the Red leader's experience so can only think them using their judgement is a good thing?
Re: Not looking good.
Where does the news report mention animals?
The stated reason's in the story for the venue being deemed unsuitable are and I quote : -
1) "The decision was taken amid safety fears over the close proximity of the county show to major road junctions."
2)"He said they had to take into account built-up areas including the south-east corner of Ipswich, the major junction of the A12/A14, and they could not afford to take any risks.

Come on.
There's been lots of relatively recent discussions about the CAA and changes in Air Show regulations.
It doesn't seem too far fetched that people will take a slightly more cautious approach.
In light of last years events, who can blame them.
There can't be too many Airfields or County Showgrounds that don't have 'major road junctions' nearby.
I wasn't criticising any ones judgement.
AND
It was 20 to seven in the morning, give me a break. Don't shoot the messenger. I thought it might be of interest.
I'd have thought the animals at North Weald were well used to noise.
It's pretty near to Stansted, has/had classic jets based there and has Drag Racing and Sprinting.
But the Vulcan is exceptionally LOUD.

Will there be restrictions imposed on Farnborough? Most of the flying is over heavily populated area's including a town centre

Re: Not looking good.
Farnborough is a unique risk, not really because of the Urban Development right up to & including the original airfield, but mainly due to the Guests being severely underwhelmed, Cardiac issues related to the Entry-price & risk of head-injury from falling-down-asleep during the Flying Display!
It has been suggested that the crowds will line the Farnborough Runway & the Displays will be over the Runway Centre-line.....at Blackbushe!!! Nothing new there for the US. contingent??

Re: Not looking good.
Thinking more about the B1? Released from Odiham-Hold direct to Farnborough Display. "Bone 01..Farnbro' Twr. How was that for you guys?" Tower replies " What?.. Bone 01 immediate right turn heading XXX. TMA de-confliction, Expedite!!"
We were in the middle of a rain shower & I saw the B1 about 3 miles north of my location at the 'Naughty Golf-course', flashing vapes off a high-speed pass over Blackbushe heading towards Heathrow. Can't remember the year without major delving, but the B1 was flying from Fairford on alternate days to the B52 IIRC.
PS. Whatever the truth with the B52 it was a pitiful demonstration of navigation & flying. Having made a U-turn from overhead Blackbushe to southerly heading nearer the Hogs' Back it was unable to regain the display-line. B52 requested another wide circuit to position, but the Director declined & advised the a/c Rtb. Fairford.

Re: Not looking good.
Ref the B-52 that missed the Fly by at Farnborough. I was lucky to chat with the Navigation officer from the Sqn, a Major at Fairford Display a few years after the event. Despite being an ATC restriction, the story went all the way to the top !! The said major was called to account over the incident by his CO !!

Re: Not looking good.
Can't recall which year it was but the B-1B flew low and very fast right down the center line heading west with after burners. I was on the balcony of the pub at the 24 end. It was an incredible sight so the USAF got it right that year!
Re: Not looking good.
More than 50 years ago now, used to enjoy British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch.
Lunch time break, sandwich and coffee to hand, in would come The Vulcan at tree top height - full throttle, up and away.
This was followed by the Coltishall Lightning, couple of circuits of Druids Bend, then off home in full vertical reheat.
Didn't harm those children, they all grew up to be bank managers or estate agents.
