The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) shot down a U.S.-led coalition warplane over northern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Wednesday, with the extremist group claiming the capture of a Jordanian pilot.

“We have confirmed reports that IS members took a (non-Syrian) Arab pilot prisoner after shooting his plane down with an anti-aircraft missile near Raqa city,” the London-based monitoring group said in a statement carried by AFP.

The ISIS branch in Raqa published photographs on jihadist websites purporting to show its fighters holding the captured pilot, with a caption identifying him as Jordanian.

No other party however has confirmed the reports. Events in Syria are difficult to confirm because of restricted media access to conflict zones.

ISIS extremists have committed widespread atrocities in areas under their control, including mass executions of captured soldiers and public beheadings of hostages including Western journalists and aid workers.

Coalition warplanes have carried out regular strikes around Raqa, which ISIS has used as the headquarters for its self-proclaimed “caliphate.”

Seems to be a RJAF F-16...Looks not good....
Cheers,

Unless he knows the serial, he doesn't.

The ones serialled 1xx were ex-Belgian or (for some of the B-models) ex-Dutch and the ones serialled 6xx were FMS (straight off the production line). Credit Scramble database for info.

As far as I am aware the F-16s Jordan got direct from the USA were ex USAF ANG airframes that were modified as F-16 ADFs?

I may be loosing the plot right now however....

And hoping the pilot is returned home safely

Tim,

My apologies - not thinking straight. Yes, the FMS ones were all ex-AMARG.

The 16 'ADFs have all gone - either crashed (3) or went to Pakistan (13). They were serialled in the 2xx range.

Have a good Christmas and all the best for 2015. :thumb:

Bob

Not a problem. I didn't know they had gone to Pakistan either..

All the best for 2015

Rumours of a failed rescue attempt on The Aviationist -
According to unconfirmed reports, the U.S. launched a special operations mission to recover the Jordanian Air Force pilot captured by IS militants after he was forced to abandon his F-16 over Iraq on Dec. 24, 2014.

However, the mission had to be aborted after the commando, heading towards a private house in Al-Raqqa, in the northern part of central Syria, where the Royal Jordanian Air Force pilot was hidden, lost the element of surprise and the helicopters came under heavy fire.

The news was reported by Israel News media outlet, but the source are rebels in Syria according to Turkish news report in El Andalul. So, once again, it’s difficult to determine what’s true and what’s just propaganda.

Bringing this thread back

According to Sky News ISIL/ ISIS/IS have given the F-16 pilot (and the second Japanese hostage) 24 hours to live unless a prisoner is released http://news.sky.com/story/1416035/japan ... rs-to-live

Saw that this morning.
Really feel it's getting to the time to remove the gloves with IS & the rest of the Extremists that are getting so much coverage in the press.

As to the supposed fighters that leave these shores to go fight for IS - Let them go less extremists for the security services to monitor. However once they leave they loose all rights to a British passport & any other nation. They can have a passport again once the IS are recognised as a country/state whatever.

Why should we let them come back only to then clog up the prison system & cost the taxpayer money.

Under strict Islamic Sharia law, apart from amputation for theft, lashes for drinking alcohol and and stoning for adultery etc, the penalty for terrorist activities is.....EXILE. Tell them we are adopting their beloved Sharia practices piecemeal with the result they have to leave Britain permanently!

Give them free passage to Syria in a RAF Herk with a free skydive onto the battlefields - Just forgetting that a chute is required.
