Daily Mail - people running for their lives, jumping to the floor scared!!

I can't believe they didn't blame it on the illegal immigrants/Labour Party/European Union?!

My mate was under both of those and the Vulcan was far far scarier than the typhoon!

It can't be a coincidence that the new minimum height on talkdown procedure is now 210ft(up from 200) for the low approach or to land. This has been instigated in the last couple days this week at Leuchars!

I was in that position all day last Friday. I like it there. The speed, the heat, the smell, the noise, the view - all incredible and, for me, worth the risk.

I chose it knowing the risks. My choice, nobody elses.

I'm one of the minority ( seemingly!) ) that still believes in freedom of choice. If you like it and it's legal, go for it - don't mock those who don't. If you don't like it, don't do it - don't chastise those who DO!

England is still a free country. The reason we have fighter aircraft ( and, thus, this forum, ) is to keep it that way.

Pilot error, duking it out, precision, what-have-you, it was some spectacle and incredibly skilful - as is every landing.

I can't believe people still live their lives the Daily Fail way.

This wouldn't affect this out, minimum height for the procedure is decision height - land or go around. Valley's height changes a lot, 200, 320 etc depending on factors.

Totally agree with your sentiment...........except the last in brackets
However, this whole saga unfortunately will awake and alert the 'elf & safety brigade.
They will be jumping up and down like a brigade of jobsworth useless gits, and the enjoyment which many cherrish
will be gone.
I hope not.

Neil,

Luckily you were not there when something has hit the fence, A French Mirage 2000, and a Belgian F-16 have clobbered the fence on finals when deployed for ACMI some years ago Hence the reason its painted red and white IIRC. Although I wasn't there at the time when they did it, Its your choice if you wish to stay there.

I wonder how many people that did the fence at Cottesmore in 2001 when the infamous B-1 incident took place would say the same now?

Just a thought

The Rafale landing at Yeovilton in 2009 that Rich refers to...this was followed by a large bounce as he hit the beginning of the tarmac....

The Air Traffic Controller specifically asked the typhoon pilot in the radar pattern if he was aware of the new standard minimum height for the procedure.

Freedom of choice yes, but if one stands in a stupid position others will follow who may be naive to the potential consequences. Whilst you may get a thrill from being so close is it really worth being burnt or losing a limb or two when a jet takes a bird strike and loses power at the worst possible moment? And no level of compensation you receive when you sue the MoD will make up for it, trust me.

I chatted with "Stealth117"nearby who is on FC and shortly after, military personel came out to check the fence etc so it didnt go unoticed(Martin has a great pic of it btw)also I think Flyingslug has a shot of it from the P&V and its hard to tell wether it did actually hit the tarmac or grass,a close call all round.o
As for the reasons behind it who knows but he was very low all the way through on finals so perhaps it was a calculated event, either way imo it was a bit of a stupid thing to
do and absolutely no need for it given the risk to all
Cheers Dave.

The STUPID BIT was you standing anywhere near the threshold,
even train spotters aren't that mental enough to stand on the inside of a crossing when an express goes through!...

Standing under the threshold Just do not do it, it only takes a split second for things to go wrong, also you will go deaf.
