Don't know what you mean regarding Wyton. The airfield might become full of cars but they can't touch the Tech Area or the Air Ambulance area; both are fenced off.binbrook87 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 04, 2020 10:17 amAnd if they weren't content with Bruntingthorpe the same fleet management company plans the same fate for RAF Wyton![]()
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

Re: Bruntingthorpe news
I am presuming that all the hard surfaces.... runway, taxiway, apron will be filled with vehicles, and the limited private flying or any possibility of future flying activity will cease?romeo bravo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 6:33 pmDon't know what you mean regarding Wyton. Re: Bruntingthorpe news
Think private flying at Wyton stopped some time ago, in any case the PPL's used a grass strip approx at right angles to the main runway.
There have been local rumours that the air ambulance was wanting to move to a site located somewhere within the old RAF Alconbury site.
The JARIC site includes the hangars and has a secure boundary that does not include the runway or hardstanding, although expect there is still a designated helicopter landing area.
Guessing the airfield will still be in MOD ownership and leased to C.Walton and this lease will now have been passed to Cox.

The post you quoted was referring to Kemble’s runway.mushbuster wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 5:33 pmSuch a runway length would render the airfield unuseable for operating B-47s in the 50s and 60s, a quick measure on Google earth suggests its the standard SAC runway length provided at all the B-47 operating locations in the UK which is close to 10,000 feet. FWIW Wiki suggests 3,000m/9843'

Re: Bruntingthorpe news
So sad about Bruntingthorpe. This was a very unique and special place to visit. It will be sadly missed.
I really hope homes can be found for the AC as statics at least and that they don't get chopped up. Gonna miss the buccs and lightings. Let's hope taxi runs somewhere else will be possible in the future.
I wish I'd gone to more events but glad I got there when I did.

Re: Bruntingthorpe news
How do you know its all over? Just because everyone reads a post saying Cox has bought some of it......
Re: Bruntingthorpe news
Multiple groups being either asked to leave or move their aircraft against the threat of them being scrapped.
Cox has the lease on the entire airfrield site I believe.
Re: Bruntingthorpe news
Not what I have been told by someone who owns aircraft on there. Anyway I shall await further news
Re: Bruntingthorpe news
Well, your contact is very lucky or in the LPG; every owner/group I’ve spoken to isn’t in that lucky position. Seeing as TBAG have been asked to leave, and almost all the large aircraft have been threatened with scrapping by late summer, I’d say it’s pretty serious.
I think the only aircraft probably not under threat are the smaller ones owned by the Walton family and the LPG.

Re: Bruntingthorpe news
I know David and several others on the place, but like I say we shall see what happens.
Re: Bruntingthorpe news
This line from the first post in this thread is the reason why it looks like Bruntingthorpe in it's current guise is over, it was copied and pasted direct from the Bruntingthorpe website:
"Please note that, following an acquisition of C.Walton Ltd by Cox Automotive, the Aviation business and Cold War Jets Museum at the Bruntingthorpe site are now closed and will not re-open."
Re: Bruntingthorpe news
Some odd things.
According to FB the owner of the vc10's has been given legal notice to remove the aircraft by end of July (surely an impossibly short deadline) very odd. Re posses or scrap?
Lots of people saying the Aug open day is going ahead (without the vc10's i presume see above)
TBAG have been given the same deadline to remove themselves from the site (unconfirmed)
Unconfirmed new dedicated area for the cwj jets, but which jets who knows, but given that cox seem desperate for the space i can't see any of the big jets surviving.
Seems that the aircraft owners on site really haven't been kept in the loop on this.
It's all very odd all the way through, but i am guessing cox want space for the new registrations coming out in i think August and it says on the Bruntingthorpe page that cox have no interest in aviation, or words to that effect.
Bruntingthorpe was a really unique event and i've gone to every open day since 2005, another nail in aviation heritage, going to miss it.

Without confirming or denying anything else, this is very, very, similar to my understanding. Cox want space, not aeroplanes.Jammer wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 5:30 pmSome odd things.

One thing i forgot to mention, given the space allocated i can't see any of the jets running again, it's just to small.ColintheCaterpillar wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 5:40 pmWithout confirming or denying anything else, this is very, very, similar to my understanding. Re: Bruntingthorpe news
Sadly, my guess (if they'll ever be seen again), is that some of these airframes will probably end up becoming exhibits at a future cockpit fest

Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.
