I bet Boscombe Down was brilliant for spotting in the 80s?

I once saw 26 different types of RAF aircraft in one day spent at the end of Boscombe's runway!

My late Uncle used to work in Westbury, always used to enjoy my visits there and we used to visit Boscombe too in the 80s/90s , great to see so many types.

What were the 26, if you don’t mind me asking?

I do not have a record of date or of the types, but having written this I did sit down and compile a list, which is therefore not definitive! Here goes:

Jet Provost, Andover (2 types), Hunter, Lightning, Phantom, Hawk, Jaguar, Canberra, Victor, Hercules, Beagle, Bassett, Britannia, Argosy, Devon, VC10, Sea King, Gazelle, Harrier, Dominie, Buccaneer, Vulcan, Heron, Whirlwind, Jetstream, Chipmunk.

Don't forget the RAF Chinook and the based Tornado

I used to visit about once a month combined with Middle Wallop

Edit : must admit I did sometimes ask myself why?
