Theres plenty of Typhoons just a few hundred yards away that would do the job at a fraction of the cost!

And what would be wrong with that ? The RAF already have a budget for the solo Typhoon display. By disbanding the Red Arrows you save twelve aircraft, ten pilots, 50+(?) ground crew. The replacement cost would be four additional pilots and their aircraft to create a new RAF formation display flight. Guess you would want more aircraft in team corrects so as to provide a flying display of five aircraft. What seems to be forgotten by those who demand nine red Hawk T2's is that by the time these replacements happen there will be even few places and events to display at. The solo aircraft will still be the primary display with the full team only being seen occasionally for major public, political or Royal events. The solo display pilot will require the majority of the flying hours to maintain currency, the other four team pilots will still require special training flights but could also have standard squadron duties. This squadron could also take over some of the tasks currently undertaken by 100sqn Hawk T1. Obviously if two seat Typhoons are available from storage then this would help with the 100sqn FAC role, the solo display could still a single seater. The cost and need for a dictated team of ground crew would be reduced by the Typhoon being within the standard servicing pool. The only difficult question would be where to base this display flight, Coningsby would be the obvious choice but airspace for display practise could be a problem, Lossimouth would be a bad choice for transit flights to display locations, really only left with Leeming but if RAF is going to get the addition two 'fighter only Typhoon squadrons as promised that might yet become an operation base once more.Viper28 wrote: If they went for Typhoon then I think you would see a vastly reduced formation
The could do the new CTRL+ALT+DEL formation to start the displaySky Pirate wrote:Lucky to get the same 4 Typhoons serviceable on any given day though Doughnut.....lol
Trouble is the Combat Hawk is built in India, under Licence from BAE.C-Harvey wrote:This may be a way forward.

It would not be necessary to install non-essential weapon systems. A joint production with Bae, aren't they developing a new wing for the Hawk?
Buy British built gear, keep the work here in the UK.
Indeed, the chances of the Reds flying anything other than a Hawk is zero!?teeonefixer wrote:Interesting to see how this thread has developed !!!!
