It seems vipers from Aviano and lakenheaths f15's and the halls kc135 's all deployed to Aviano were also involved in a defensive counter air and escort role.

News channels are now reporting that x4 RAF Typhoons provided air support, for the x4 Tornados involved in the strike early this morning.

Interesting Russian "version" of last night's events on the Russian MOD website?

It must be embarrassing for whoever the Russian Ministry of Defence sends out to do those briefings. They claim that the Syrians shot down 71 cruise missiles. They did the same with the 2017 cruise missile attack on Shayrat. They claimed that only 23 of 59 struck their target. You can see it from their perspective but they do go over the score!

According to the US the Syrians were completely taken by surprise last night and only launched SAMs after the missiles had hit their targets.

McKenzie: "Syria fired 40 surface to air missiles into the air after strike on ballistic (unguided trajectory) to no effect....after the 105 US and allied missiles had already landed."

The US claimed that 57 out of 59 cruise missiles struck their intended targets on the Shayrat airbase during 2017. The Russian claimed that only 23 hit.
