Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
One Sky Reporter posted on Twitter they will be performing remaining displays with 8-aircraft. A fine tribute in my eyes.
Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
Two black Hawks departed Hurn today at around 15.10. I'm presuming they were the solo display Hawk and the spare, although I cannot confirm this.
Good to hear that the Reds are going to be training again shortly though.

The BBC article says that the RAF have stated 30th August for training to resume with eight aircraft, although it's a bit self-conflicting as the opening of the same article says 'the MoD say they're unlikely to perform at airshows again this year'.kurt.fairhurst wrote:When will they start the Training ?
Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
Oh ok ye they may not Preform at airshow again this year but the pilots need to stay current.

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
But if they weren't going to do airshows why would they bother training for an eight ship routine again? Surely they'd just wait until October when the newbies join and then start all over from scratch for next season.kurt.fairhurst wrote:Oh ok ye they may not Preform at airshow again this year but the pilots need to stay current.
My own feeling is that if they're going to resume training next week, then they'll perform at shows again this September. Hope I'm right.
EDIT: And that confirms it!

I agree, a fine tribute. I imagine very sad to watch though.Macc wrote:One Sky Reporter posted on Twitter they will be performing remaining displays with 8-aircraft. A fine tribute in my eyes.

Not shooting the messenger (honest) but this part from the statement on the Reds website....Softbill Man wrote:believe the 8 ship practice is to keep them current enough to keep there eye in for next years flying.
....makes me think that there's a desire to fulfill at least some of he remaining display dates this season.Display flying by the Red Arrows team, in an eight ship formation, will recommence subject to a successful period of consolidation and approval to display.
I suppose only time will tell.

Yeah, no probs mate, like I say, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Thanks for posting what you're told though!

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
EXTREMELY happy to hear that they have been given the go ahead to resume flying
I do have a question though...
With the speed with which they moved in returning the Hawks to flight (coupled with no checks needing required on the aircraft) would this lead one to believe that it is due to the accident investigation board's preliminary finding that there was nothing wrong with the aircraft when it crashed and that it was possibly due to outside factors such as a bird strike?
Certainly not trying to fire up the speculation bus, as an engineer at Cessna, I'm just extremely curious how all this works with releasing fleets back into the air.
Cheers!

Not sure if this has been asked yet, but does anyone know which aircraft put out the Mayday call? Was it Red 4?

Seems to be a round of copying.....

Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
Seems the flight back to Scampton is now cancelled until tomorrow due to bad weather conditions.

Someone somewhere posted / wrote a transcript of the radio messages between the Reds: that indicated it was Red 1.
There was nothing in what I read to say that Red 4 did or did not make a call.
Can't give a link as I can't remember where I saw it.
Re: Red Arrow down Bournemouth 2011
I don't know their procedure, but would Red 4 have been primarily on their A2A (but monitoring ATC) with Red 1 or Red 9 dealing with ATC?Dunk wrote:Not sure if this has been asked yet, but does anyone know which aircraft put out the Mayday call? Was it Red 4?
So if Red 4 did give a mayday, with little time to react, it would have been transmitted on their A2A and then Red 1 or Red 9 passing on the mayday call to ATC?
That's my theory anyway!
