Thanks for that Jakdaw, we are on the same wavelength - and yes I meant commemorate. I fully understand why we commemorate - we have 11:11 11/11 for this - and I have taught my children the great suffering that war causes.

I'm only curious why this one event is so well commemorated, when there are so many events of the war to choose from?

I'm curious to people's answers

It's not commerated every year but, like any big anniversary, a special acolade is undertaken to commemorate the event. It happens every year on 11 Nov and 50, 60, 70, etc, years after events. This year is 70 years after the raid.

Well, I'll be at Lincoln Cathedral in the congregation.

As posted earlier about these parts don’t forget the flypast at the Woodhall Spa charity fundraiser on 15th May 2013, as mentioned in this thread!

My personal understanding is that this year’s commemorative events will have some emphasis on reconciliation.

I’m attending on the 15th and 17th and I understand that all events in Lincolnshire are now oversubscribed.

 Anymore on the dams/reservoir flypasts? I'm making every effort to get up there, as I live local and it falls in my study leave!

You may be interested to learn that I have managed to obtain two admission tickets to the Commemoration Service in Lincoln Cathedral on Friday 17th.
Also, I am hoping to attend the unveiling of the new monument at Woodhall Spa on the Sunday.

At Lincoln Cathedral as well, should be a fitting service.

Is the Ladybower flyover looking more doubtful. There has been no official release. Apparently, car parking tickets were allocated through a lottery system last time and I'm sure that the local police would have to plan the administration of the event well in advance. As the date is getting ever closer I thought that an official announcement would have been made by now? If there was going to be some sort of low key flypast, a NOTAM would still have to be put in place. Does anyone know what is happening?
