Thought part of the reason Cameron was involved is that negotiations had taken part with the MOD to relinquish their claim on the aircraft. The rest as they say is history in the making!

Press Conference at the IWM starts in 4 mins.

Don`t expect too much though, seems the Spit`s found` story may have been a tad premature.

Do not think they will release photos just yet, wait for the official press release to be made in a few days so I understand.

I think there might be an item on ITN news about this.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

There are no photos yet because none have been dug up! But that will soon be a reality, whether they turn out to be as well preserved as is thought remains to be seen. But I for one wish those involved in the project all the luck they can get,as the possibility of another 36 Spits in existence (preserved or flying) is a mouth watering prospect indeed!
Cheers

I expect Discovery and National Geographic channels will be fighting hard to get the rights to film the dig.

Hi all,
Let's hope that they have found and are able to dig up the Spits - (as bizfreeq said, basically the more the better, flying or not) - this is a part of British History that should never be forgotten and if these lovely machines can be preserved so much the better!! And 21zebra - yes, you're probably right mate - the Discovery Channel (or others, etc, etc!) will I suspect be falling over themselves to cover it!! --Paul :thumb:

Knowing our luck the Time Team will get the rights to film it and somehow dig up Roman pottery......

quid21 wrote:So does that mean that if I dug up a crate containing a Spitfire it wouldn't still belong to the UK government due to it being put in some kind of crate for storage so I could then sell it on eBay and live happily ever after?!!
If you've thrown something on the council rubbish tip, you've abandoned it and becomes the property of the tip owners. If you drop you wallet in town and someone finds & keeps it, they are guilty of "stealing by finding".
On the news tonight it was stated the aircraft arrived too late to see action in the war and we didn't want them to fall into the hands of the locals who may be anti British. Therefore they were left in their crates which were then buried. Now whether they have been thrown away or simply stored securely will doubtless be argued over by well paid lawyers.

LOL TC, if they find Roman pottery in Burma, then we might need to rewrite the history books!

A report in today's Daily Telegraph says that they may be stored at RAF St Mawgan and that the restoration work will be carried out by the Spitfire Heritage Trust.

And all the luck in the world to them that they find Spitfires in good condition and for the first time can take to the skies!

(I of course assume that they never flew before being boxed up?)
