Anyone taking photographs for a hobby could be called a photographer. I don't recognise those names but I am guessing they are good or maybe professional photographers. I am an amateur photographer like many others on here but still a photographer.

I call myself an aircraft enthusiast - hope that covers enjoying, taking photos, spotting, number crunching, listening, collecting bits-and-pieces . . . . list goes on and on!

I'm with you tm74sqn, Aviation Enthusiast especially the spotting, number crunching, listening and the taking photos, do collect a few things but not much. Basically watching aircraft - suppose that's what kept me going last year during lockdown.

I personally don't mind being called a spotter. I'm proud of my hobby and I enjoy working on aircraft/helicopters as well as spotting outside my working hours. I have a camera by my side at all times, if I'm working, it's in my toolbox. I do sell my images and part of my job is company photographer, but I still don't mind the term spotter. I'd much rather live tomorrow with memories of what happened the day before rather than wasting all my time getting blottoed in a pub and not remembering a thing. Regardless of what label you put on yourself, don't listen to what others say and just be proud.

Aviation Enthusiast/ Plane Spotter or AvGeek even don’t mind being known as any of these. Actually to be honest!

Heard once referred to as Rodneys... as in "Rodney Trotters - Spotters".. always liked that one.

Quite agree! It doesn't matter one iota what you or others prefer to call you. Names don't matter so long as you're enjoying what you do. FYI ...

Jamie Hunter..... Previously an avid enthusiast, worked in Civil Aviation, part-time Author/Photographer, contributing-editor of Aviation Mags, Full-time author & purveyor of major submissions to well known media outlets. Specialist in Air to Air photography.
Hesja.... Able to gain privileged access to Eastern European military bases for excellent opportunities (we can only dream of?) to shoot quality images for media outlets, including this Forum.
COAP..... Formed by Rich' Cooper who engaged in aviation photography at a single digit age (probably as a result of his father, Peters' obsession? ;) ) enjoyed amateur photographer status as a buddy of Jamie Hunter before working part-time in Aviation Magazines before becoming Editor of two major Aviation Mag's. Following a successful foray into starting an organisation for the betterment of photo-taking skills APC (Aviation Photo Club) evolved into the COAP platform we see today. Specialising in opportunities for photography Seminars, Tutorials & Specialist Live Events for the public to hone their skills in 'Hesja-like' locations Worldwide! Ably assisted by accomplished aviation photographer Steve Comber. ( Google... COAP, Centre Of Aviation Photography for more info')

Me, I'm really just an aviation 'Enthusiast' who always has been(born into RAF Service!! :) ) & always will be into aircraft. Studied them, modelled them, flew in military & civil, now watch & photograph them. I always like to know what I've seen but don't record numbers or serials, or take specific side-on shots for ID. purposes! I'd like to say I'm NOT a Spotter.... but try to gain access to any non-public military base events, without conceding that you ARE to join the 'Spotters-Day'!

Ah thanks for that. So all professional labels then. I am still a photographer of the amateur variety nor just of aircraft.

Whenever I'm going out for the day I always say I'm going plane spotting so I must be a 'spotter'.

I take photos as well as note the serials/callsigns, as far as I'm concerned it's all part of the hobby that makes it all the more enjoyable. :thumb:

I am a plane spotter - can't shake it off after nearly 50 years of spotting

I am personally glad I don't/didn't work in the industry - it is purely a hobby, can you make living in aviation I never thought of that , sounds like hard work.
