when the E-3s have gone A Rotating Randome head will be mounted on a pole with the inscription reading former base of the E-3!!tm74sqn wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 3:10 pmLike the new British AAC Apache helicopters, perhaps some of the existing electronic equipment will be reused - so maybe the large rotating dome from Sentry AEW1s will replace the boring radar head on the E-3s!!!! Incidentally there is a rumour that the Rivet Joints of 51 Sqn will move from RAF Waddington to RAF Mildenhall - however, have not seen that confirmed yet.
Did you know that registration to Fighter Control is completely free and brings you lots of added features? Find out more....

That's why we have Harriers which will deploy to remote locations at the first sign of trouble. Oh, hang on...ColintheCaterpillar wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 10:44 amYeah, sadly that argument expired about 40 years ago when they could probably quite happily wipe out every base in a matter of minutes!![]()

After all, we can “trail” fast jets pretty much anywhere in the world in about 1/4 time it would take to go by ship. Unless of course the whole world suddenly doesn’t like us. Which is unlikely.
We’re now in the 21st century.

I think the Soviets would had every base in Lincolnshire alone wiped out in about 2 minutes.

Re: New Wedgetail surveillance fleet to be based at RAF Lossiemouth
Exactly, every base, depot, barracks, dock and rail yard was targeted, but at least the Harriers would’ve been safe

Having watched all those holocaust survivor films in the 70's it gave my teenage self great comfort that, living near Lincoln I'd have been fried to a crisp before having time to boil an egg. Mind you, standing in the playground and hearing the roar of a Vulcan practice mass dispersal used to scare the bejesus out of me. Fortunately we're all still here and trucking.ColintheCaterpillar wrote: ↑Fri Dec 18, 2020 5:57 pmI think the Soviets would had every base in Lincolnshire alone wiped out in about 2 minutes.![]()

Current Government policy suggests that we simply outsource the Air Force to the USAF. No competitive procurement process necessary as it’s a national security matter.

I could suggest a location, but it might be a tad painful.

No one gets out of life alive.

An-2 painted out in the colours of the Saltire and renamed “Sturgeon Hot Air One”. Can just see it turning up at Brussels with Nic onboard, ready to plead with a much larger and suffocating Union on our terms. We could always export some of our Drug related deaths for favourable returns, as we have that area pretty much sewn up
Now back on topic and the return home of 8 Sqn

With the wedgetails going Lossiemouth and reds going waddington why not also base the hawks from Leeming their and shut Leeming down.

Geography - it’s perfectly placed for 100 Sqn’s training needs.the concerned wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 3:55 pmWith the wedgetails going Lossiemouth and reds going waddington why not also base the hawks from Leeming their and shut Leeming down.
Airfield use - they aren’t the only users. Two Squadrons of Tutors and used for other aircraft (particularly SH force) as gateway to the northern training ranges.
Waddington real estate - no space for them.

In Wedgetail’s case there was a strong argument that Boeing were the only people who could deliver a combat proven, airframe integrated product into which RAF aircrew could be Seedcorned in a sensible timescale.freebirduk wrote: ↑Sat Dec 19, 2020 10:55 amCurrent Government policy suggests that we simply outsource the Air Force to the USAF. And if anyone mentions the MRA4 or AEW3.
