Drove round Scampton this morning, most of the base housing is in great condition and looks in good nick. There were various community buildings and sports areas that also look great. The only worn down/closed buildings I could see were the old billet blocks, they did look a mess.

The hangars all looked fine as well, not in as bad condition as I thought it would be.
Most of that housing is in private hands for about 20 years now.
The rough-looking ones are the ones still in use by the RAF

Not sure about Tiger Moths in red. Maybe trainer yellow but then you'd need a new name.
Oh I don't know...? Anything goes in this game, seen a few strange things meself over the years. I recall the occasion when I attended an openday at Jacksonville in 2000 and watching the bizarre spectacle of a vintage biplane flying around with a jetpack strapped under it's fuselage!
Everyone has a photographic memory; some just don't have film.

Post on the WAVE Facebook page saying Waddington about to get busier, with an announcement tomorrow.

Rumours going round that they will announce Waddo as the new base for the Reds.

Can't see it myself! A decision like that is far too rational for the MOD Massif? :)
Great for the WAVE Business when the 'Spooks' aint too active.

I thought the same, but what else could it be?

I imagine the infra structure would move over to Waddington and the current airspace retained at Scampton for practising.

Spooks are hardly ever active, all we've had today is two Shadow sorties, both of which are the same aircraft/ callsign.

I think it's been mentioned before they plan to build on the Scampton land so the airspace wont be available for long.
I think 5nm would give Cranwell enough room for their circuit work, and Wickenby to the north is out of the potential boundary if Waddington became R313.

Aha - that explains the multi-million, 5-year turf contract!

Waddington is a logical choice on many levels, particularly with the infrastructure required (and the retirement and removal of some of the ISTAR assets over the next few years).

I wonder how long it will last.....

Remember when they moved to Cranwell? That didn't work...

Fire, ambulance and air traffic will still have to be there, probably shipped in from Waddington each day.

Will they still have to land to collect the video in order to be debriefed?

Will the MOD be able to sell the land to developers, how long will the knock on effect be from Covid?

I don't think this has ended yet!!

Cranwell didn’t work, and wouldn’t work as there are just too many movements, a reason that would have counted against the other “contender” airfields. Movements at Waddo can be planned far more easily, there are (dozens) fewer by home based aircraft, and the assets there are in a far better position to do routine pilot training at other airfields.

As for the video? I think technology has moved on a bit.
