Does anyone have any info as to what squadron this was?Blackcat1 wrote:And what do we send? The good old Tornado :-)
Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict
Presumably just from the aircraft at Akrotiri, which is a mixed pool of airframes.

Thank God the Tonkas all returned safely, that's the main thing. Hopefully the message they delivered will be understood!

Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict
From telepics the FAF used Rafales, but from where? Is one of their aircraft carriers in the Med?
Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict
Launched from St Dizier.
Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict
According to French press our Tornados targeted a missile site near Homs. The French had "several Rafales", an AWACS and presumably a tanker. They also fired mssiles from three of their frigates.

French Defence Minister has confirmed that Mirage, Rafales, 2 E-3Fs and 'several' C-135s were involved.

Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict
Whatever you may view as the rights or wrongs of the action last night, I tip my hat to all the crews involved last night, British, French and American for their professionalism and doing their respective countries’ bidding. A timely reminder also I suggest that you don’t judge an Air Arm by how nice their anniversary colour schemes are.

Carrying out strikes in February 1991 and still at it 27 years later in April 2018. is this a first for a RAF operated type?baz1 wrote:the right Aircraft for the job tried and tested more than oncereheat module wrote:Quality product, - let's have some of those...Blackcat1 wrote:And what do we send? Please note I stress RAF operated. I am aware the Dominican Republic was using Mustangs and Vampires in the early 1980's.
Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict
Methinks that the size of the French contingent last night indeicates that M Macron has aspirations of putting France higher up on the world scale.
Re: Syrian/Iraq air war and conflict
Update to my earlier post, it seems the full French Air Force contingent consisted of 4 Mirage 2000-5, 5 Rafale B/C, 2 E-3F Sentry & 6 KC-135.

Just been and joined a few ex-Military colleagues for a few beers; raised a glass in a toast to "all the boys and girls in every force who supported the recent action - a job well done".
