A truly great aviator, and his books were also an excellent read.

Very sad, his book 'Wings on my Sleeve' is one of the best aircraft books I've read to date.

RIP Sir, an absolute Legend within Aviation History.

A truly great Test Pilot and Aviator.

Was Station Commander RNAS Fulmar (Lossiemouth) at one time.

Saddened to hear this news. A truely Iconic figue who's Aviation exploits will surely never be surpassed.
My group Cleveland Aviation Society had the pleasure of four talks by him and not once did he refer to notes.
RIP Sir :(

So sorry to hear this news. He had the great good fortune to be in the right place and the right time to play a unique and outstanding role in the golden age of aviation, and I suspect his test flying record will probably never be surpassed.

Extremely saddened to hear this news.

I had the pleasure of meeting and helping Eric and his lovely wife Jean several times over the last few years when he carried out book signings at our stand at Duxford during the many airshows throughout the year.

It never ceased to amaze me what a crowd he always drew, they all hung off his every word including many well-known display pilots of today.

He will be sadly missed. RIP Eric.

A proper Gentleman with no airs and graces.
He was always happy to share his knowledge and what a vast store that was.
I never understood why he was never knighted (but I won't go political.)
RIP Sir.

Fully agree with all said before. Had the privalege of meeting him at RAF Lossiemouth a few years ago.
Talked for about an hour no notes had everyone spellbound.
