Re: BBC 2: Britain's Ultimate Pilots: Inside the RAF
Thoroughly enjoyed the 1st episode. Well done the BBC and RAF!
Considering the very broad spectrum of BBC viewers, I thought it well presented, well balanced in terms of small talk, technical composition and 'pilot speak' for the more military orientated.

Watched it last night, two things struck me, the commentator was awful and completely OTT. I ask you why go on and on about changing a Hydraulic filter and the lads having to drive down from Scampton to Biggin Hill, I reckon its just a pretty routine job that was made to look severe. Secondly there were obviously set ups with the JENGO which didn't come over well at all, as against the one where lad who talked completely off the cuff after the short ground run. Some good footage over London though, and I did enjoy it.
I do what the voices in my head tell me to do!!!!

Well done the BBC and the RAF for a most entertaining 2nd episode of this series.
The view from the cockpit(s) of both Typhoon and the BBMF steeds, as well as the footage from the crew of the Lancaster exiting their smoking aircraft on the runway after the fire, are scenes most of us never see. Interviews and conversations with RAF personnel gives a wonderful insight into the workings and decision making process within the organisation.
Congratulations all round!

Started to watch it and then turned off after a short while due to the ghastly and way over the top narration.

Such a shame that the narration completely ruins what would otherwise have been a good way to spend an hour. There's enough time for the other episodes to be edited with narration that is in keeping with the subject.

I found it entertaining (only watched episode 1 so far)
Congratulations to the BBC & RAF for putting this together well worth a watch.
What people need to remember though is that the program is designed for the mass market not just for those of us with a bit of background knowledge.
Yes the commentary is a bit OTT for those of us that know, yes they dramatised what I suspect is a fairly routine failure but it would have been a bit dull if all the reds got to Biggin Hill without issues. The weather didn't exactly help matters with epiosde 1 as they couldn't show a great deal of display footage.
Was also good to see some of the human side of the RAF as well
I'll watch part 2 tonight

Yes, great programme well made but agree the narration is totally OTT, but you can't blame Toby (Stephens), he will have been directed to do it that way, tell the director!!

Re: BBC 2: Britain's Ultimate Pilots: Inside the RAF
I really enjoyed it. So much so that I watched the repeat last night.
I thought it was particularly interesting to have Dave Montenegro(I think?) saying that all the 'Reds' were envious of the BBMF pilots. Then think what a career the two BBMF pilots have had having previously flown with the RAFAT.
Superb programme, ok, so almost every reality programme screened these days has 'jeopardy' as a sideline but in some respects, we 'here' have lived with it too.
Who else thought that Saturday at RIAT could have been a wash out given how poor the weather had been in the run up to it??? I certainly did.
But once again, Dave Montenegro said that with the British Summertime, opportunities arise as quickly as they disappear.
I shall certainly be watching the remaining programmes.

Had recorded them & caught up last night. Loved the fact that When the Canopy won't open, on a multi £million Typhoon. You thump it hard

I watched all four episodes and yes the comentary was very annoying and we would have been better without it or having it toned down a bit. Having been on the other side of the fence, comments some of the comments the groundcrew made will haunt them every time they walk into the crewroom!
Thump engineering is/was quite common, belting a Lightning Avpin starter with a chock to get it to run and kicking a Hawk wing tip to get the nav light to come on were a couple that I remember.Loved the fact that When the Canopy won't open, on a multi £million Typhoon. You thump it hard
