Russian Combat Aircraft In Syria
Re: Russian Combat Aircraft In Syria
If we take BBC and Sky News at face value then there's little threat of that because the US led coalition is targeting IS in Eastern Syria near the Iraq border while the Russians are attacking targets relatively close to their bases and in turn the Assad regime's remaining territory.
Re: Russian Combat Aircraft In Syria
The Russians have admitted that they are bombing non-IS targets.
http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/russia-syria-k ... is-1522005The Kremlin has admitted that air strikes in Syria are hitting a list of militant organisations opposed to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad – not only Islamic State (Isis) – bolstering Western fears that Vladimir Putin's real purpose in Syria is to help Assad reclaim lost territory.
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the military operation in Syria was wider than initially framed. "These organisations [on the target list] are well-known and the targets are chosen in co-ordination with the armed forces of Syria."

Surely with the Russians having multiple sanctions against them then this operation is only going to speed up the use of its finance's causing more desperate actions by Putin.

interesting viewing. No insignia(red star)
. Those bombs don't look that aerodynamic either(compared to the West's)

In that case, on a legal technicality, does that make the pilots guilty of piracy?Thunder wrote:Interesting to see that some maybe all Russian a/c have had their National markings painted out?

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Monday the United States was "greatly concerned" about the incursion by a Russian plane into Turkish airspace over the weekend and he had intensified discussions with Moscow.
He said his Turkish counterpart called him about the incident on Saturday, which Kerry discussed with Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Susan Rice, the White House national security adviser.
"We are greatly concerned about it because it is precisely the kind of thing that, had Turkey responded ... it could have resulted in a shootdown, and it is precisely the kind of thing we warned against,"

Similar report on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34448942
Not only did a Russian aircraft enter Turkish Airspace, also the article reports. "Turkish jets patrolling the border were also "harassed" by an unidentified plane on Sunday, Turkey said."

Re: Russian Combat Aircraft In Syria
I do find it odd that in the bomb sight footage the Russian's are releasing, they don't seem to have many direct hits
I know a close hit can be just as affective. I can't see the USAF and RAF etc releasing that sort of footage

Yup, looks worse than US LGBs from 30 years ago. Those were probably their most accurately delivered weapons too - scary to think what the bad ones were like.
