Any Super Hornet's due in Europe?

Post by Gary » Thu Aug 13, 2015 8:40 am

Could be me putting two and two together and getting it wrong  but are any Super Hornet's due in Europe? Two turned up at Bangor, Maine yesterday with an Omega tanker support

Both are from VFA-213 ones a F/A-18E and the other is a F/A-18F

There is an ALTRV today, looks like it's something possibly heading to the Scandinavian countries viewtopic.php?f=139&t=118344

Edit got my answer, going to wonderful wonderful Copenhagen http://uk.flightaware.com/live/flight/OMEGA10

According to that flight plan they should pass directly over my house, and for once it's clear skies.

Omega Air DC-10 N974VV and two F-18s have just gone over the Aberdeen VOR at about 1720A from the Stornoway direction and then turned towards Stavanger. Now have taken a sharp right at FORTY towards Denmark

Checked with a friend of mine in the States about the jets.

The F/A-18E (single seater) is a demo aircraft from Boeing with a "Black Lions" fuel tank on the centreline pylon. :thumb:

The two seat F/A-18F is from the VFA-213 "Black Lions".

So it looks like Boeing is trying to sell the F/A-18E/F to the Finish AF has a replacement for their aging F/A-18C/D Hornets ;)

Correct. F-18E/F, Rafale, Typhoon, F-35 and Gripen E are the candidates and they want something like 60 aircraft. Selection process starts in 2017, and decision in 2021. F-18C's out of service by 2030.

Trouble is, if they stick to those schedules, I'm not sure F-18E/F or Typhoon will still be in production.

To commemorate 100 years of Finnish independence there is a display in Helsinki on Friday 9thjune. Now the Finns need a replacement for their old F18s so BAe sent a Typhoon to the display for obvious reasons. I presume Boeing didn't want to be outdone so they have sent 2 of the newer versions of the F18. The two F18s landed at approx 1730 today and depart tomorrow.
