They take off at their home base - fly around the world to "do" what have got to "do" and land back at their home base.

"Round Robin" ?

To disseminate information to everyone regardless of whether or not they really need to know. That is my generation's use of the phrase. Language changes as we all know.

Allez et retour; hein en terug; out & back/return might be more accurate. Just a thought. :D

The bears did a 42hr flight a few years ago, which I believed was a record until I read the post below

Good find Paul - reminds me of another epic flight carried out by B-52's, Operation "Power Flite", 16 to 18 Jan'57, when 3 93rd BW B-52B's circumnavigated the globe in 45hrs 19mins. In so doing the 93rd BW was awarded the Mackay Trophy by the National Aeronautic Association for the most outstanding flight of 1957.

The mission started at Castle AFB with 5 93rd BW B-52B's (including 2 air spares) and ended at March AFB 24,325 mls and 5 KC-97 air refuellings later. The plan called for the lead a/c, 53-0394 "Lucky Lady III", to land at March and the 2 others to recover to their home base but due to fog at Castle all landed at March. The 2 air spares, if not required, would land at Brize Norton to exercise its B-52 `Post - Strike` staging capability before returning to Castle. In the event 1 B-52 diverted into Goose AB after it was unable to take on fuel during the first A/R, in the WILLIE Air Ref Area over NE Canada and the 4th a/c landed, according to plan at Brize following A/R No2 over Casablanca. This was 53-0395 "City of Turlock" - the first B-52 to land in the UK and present at Brize 17 to 21 Jan.
Air Refuelling No2 was provided by the 100th Air Ref Sq, on rotational training at Greenham Common with 19 KC-97's. It had arrived at Greenham during the first week of Jan'57 but after a rest of 3-days was forward deployed to Dhahran AB to support "Power Flite". All 19 KC-97's were launched on the mission although only 9 actually refuelled the B-52's.

At the completion of the flight SAC C in C, General Curtis E. LeMay stated this was a "demonstration of SAC's capabilities to strike any target on the face of the earth" and with its recent 44hr mission it appears that GSC has demonstrated likewise.

During a presentation by the Commander of the Baltops B-52 deployment to Fairford in 2014, he confirmed 'a' crew had completed a 48 hour mission previous to the deployment - apparently the flight included alot of 'high energy' drinks

Cheers

Not quite a B-52 story. A recent TV programme pilots confirmed that F-117s fly with a sun bed in the rest area, next to the loo.
They had long fights too.

Well, I have been known to be wrong, many times.

But, there were only two crew and both were pilots. One was a female and maybe the CO was also female. The picture showed the loo on the starboard side, partly hidden by a bulkhead separating the area from the flight deck. The commentary stated that the area immediately aft of the loo was designed for one pilot to recline.

When the TV programme comes round again I will take a snap of the TV screen. Of course, anyone reading this in CGHQ/NSA could help perhaps.

However, please don't hold your breathe. There are air shows in the offing.
EDITED.
Of course, the F-117 is single seat, perhaps the one that I saw was modified ? :halo:
On that basis, me being wrong, it was probably a B-2 as suggested. In that case, should it not be a "B-1" since there was only one B ed!
:D :'(

The F-117 was single seat with no where to go unless you used the full functions of the ACESII seat, then it was up and out. The B-2 only has 2 crew both pilots/wso's, and does indeed have a basic rest area behind the cockpit
