Craig is a very experienced Low Level Photographer and I think his liaison with the Daily Fail is possibly not one of his better decisions , the whole article is poor from start to finish , now either Craig has told them a pack of lies , or he has been truly done !!!

I would love to know which? :S :S

Cheers Gareth

Would be interesting to hear Craig's point of view. The whole article is a lie. Taking a stroll, what a load of :grr: Hope he's happy with the few quid he made. :@

Some clowns will do anything for a fast buck/personal gain at the detriment to the majority. Kudos.

Just can not believe the stupidity Of it all, even if the money is for Help the heroes couldn't he of sat in a tub of beans and raised the cash that way rather than kill off a dying hobby all together

Hi all, yes I've seen it and yes I've been miss quoted. I'm currently being slated by a lot of people for what I've done and to say I didn't expect it is an understatement. However this is the only statement I'm going to make on the matter.

This is what I wrote with the pictures.....

Hi Mark, could you include on your report something along the lines of........" To see the Tornado turn in our direction and to watch the pilot negotiate the valley at speeds of 450mph was just awesome. To think these pilots do this every day to maintain their professionalism and world class airmanship was a marvel to watch, as the jet sped passed I could only admire what these airman do to keep us safe. It makes me truly proud to be British and to think what these guys and gals do for our safely is just amazing. With WW1 now a 100 years old my only thoughts for the RAF both past and present is nothing but admiration".

With remembrance just round the corner I think it could be a nice feature! Regards
Craig Sluman

Both crew members were in constant communication about the article and ALL fees are going to "Help4Heros" I left it in the hands of an agency who "would take care of all the arrangements"

I feel that I have been miss led by the Daily Mail who have said they wouldn't use the pictures. I understand that The Times will be using the pictures tomorrow on an article about the extended life of the Tornado and wanted "action" shots of a Tornado. I was advised to be " a hill walker" as others didn't want to bring the Low Level Photography hobby to the lime light. As you can see the Daily Fail hasn't helped in any shape at all!!!

What was meant to be a fund raising opportunity is proving to be a disaster and for that I'm truly sorry.

I will continue to sell my pictures for charity and hope to see some of you either at airbases or the hills.

Kindest Regards

Craig Sluman.

You gave photos and a story to a paper that is well known for misreporting and you're surprised when they did exactly that? Really? Wow.

Why you ever thought this was a good way to raise money for a charity I have no idea.

Poor chaps probably mortified, but no real harm done apart from a bit of damaged pride. His intentions were well placed.

Good on yer Craig, it's not your fault that :-

A ... The daily fail are a bunch of decrepit ar53 holes
B.... Some people on here fail to see that you are trying to help out the Help for Heroes Charity in the best way you can. If any body actually bothered to read what Craig wrote you would see it went via an agency, not directly to the DM!

Keep up the good work mate and DLTBGYD

Help for Heroes are not exactly strapped for cash, in fact the opposite is very much the case! There are many other forces charities that would really appreciate the money and see little come in, Combat Stress for example. Unfortunately most people assume that when they give money to Help for Heroes it will go to those sort of causes but it doesn't.

The article reads NOTHING remotely like the statement craig gave to them as i was stood next to him when he took their phone call.

Please don't slag craig off for trying to raise some money for a very worthy cause, it's not his fault that someone on the other end of the line was listening to something completely different!
Richard

Captain Scarlet is indestructable, you are not! Remember this, do not try to imitate him.

Thought he said he wrote the words with the photos he sent in, so how could they have heard something else when it was already written and sent with the photos?

Confused! ;) :pop:

Nice photos though!

I for one am definitely not jealous of his shots, I'd also wager that most people criticising Craig also aren't jealous but simply annoyed at the fact someone who has been shooting LL for a few years would be as naive to sell images to an agency/newspaper. Craig was vocal on another forum when another persons images ended up splashed across the rags, so slightly hypocritical on that basis - even if it was for charity (I do think there are better ways for this as well). The problem when dealing with agencies and/or rags is that once you've sold the images you essentially lose any control you once had about how that image is used and the story that runs alongside it, which is what I presume has happened here.

Exactly Lloyd, and there are many 'Micky Mouse' agencies out there that happily twist a story and flogg any picture to back it up! They'll also make bigger bucks than H4H out of this, as that's all they are interested in!!

Well having worked in the aviation publishing industry

I learnt one thing many years ago, and that was Never deal with most of the Daily papers, some of the then broadsheets were an exception, but the comics errrm sorry newspapers always cocked up and made you look a complete twit.

Has happened to numerous editors over the years..

Well i am surprised that someone who has been going to The Loop so often in the past years - and witnessed all the problems there have been with photographers selling images to newspapers and the bull stories that go with it, should then go and do the same thing himself (even if to raise a few quid). Disappointing.
